Apple May Utilize ‘iTun.es’ Domain for Shortened Links

In light of the recent integration of Ping with Twitter, a flurry of complaints has emerged regarding the excessive length of Ping URLs.

In response, a reader of MacRumors suggested that Apple might utilize its iTun.es domain as a URL shortener to make Ping links more compatible with Twitter’s character restrictions.

The domain www.itun.es currently redirects to Apple.com.

Further investigation by MacRumors revealed that Apple has owned itun.es since December 2006, having registered it through MarkMonitor, a brand management company that handles domain registrations for Apple.
