Apple Opens Temporary Store in Austin for SXSW

For the upcoming South by Southwest (SXSW) festival, Apple has secured a temporary retail location in downtown Austin at the corner of Sixth and Congress Street. The pop-up shop is set to open its doors on Friday, strategically timed with the release of the iPad 2 and the start of SXSW on March 11.

Conveniently situated near the Austin Convention Center, the location offers easy access for SXSW attendees eager to purchase the new iPad 2.

Rance Wilemon, a partner at Plat.Form Real Estate, which is handling the leasing arrangements for Apple, mentioned that the pop-up store is specifically for SXSW and does not indicate plans for a permanent retail presence in downtown Austin. Apple continues to operate two other retail locations in Austin: one at Barton Creek Square and another at the Domain.

Our team will be present at the SXSW festival to cover the event and will visit the temporary Apple store to bring you updates and photos.

In addition to the festival activities, TUAW, TechCrunch, and CrunchGear are organizing a reader meetup in Austin.
