New York Times Launches In-App Subscriptions for iPhone, iPad Apps

The esteemed publication, The New York Times, has embraced Apple’s guidelines for in-app subscriptions, allowing users to procure subscriptions directly through its mobile applications on Apple devices. While this doesn’t extend to the print version, users can subscribe to the digital edition without leaving the app.

Subscription fees are tiered, with the smartphone app and digital edition costing $15, the tablet and digital subscription at $20, and the comprehensive “All Digital Access” priced at $35.

Transactions for these subscriptions are processed directly through the user’s iTunes account. Apple has recently modified its subscription policies, allowing The New York Times to set different pricing inside and outside the app.

For instance, subscribing online offers the initial four weeks for just one dollar, whereas iTunes subscribers can enjoy a free week if they agree to share their information with the NYT.
