iOS 6 Beta 3 Introduces iCloud.com Email Addresses

Today, Apple unveiled the latest iteration of iOS 6 beta 3. According to a report by MacRumors, the update includes a significant change for iCloud users: shifting from me.com to icloud.com email addresses.

This transition is now in effect for new sign-ups who will automatically receive icloud.com addresses. Additionally, existing users upgrading to iOS 6 beta 3 can opt for a new icloud.com email, while still retaining their previous mac.com or me.com addresses.

Some users have expressed dissatisfaction with this change, citing the longer domain name as a step back from the succinct me.com.

However, this move aligns with Apple’s long-term strategy for its cloud services, aiming for a more unified branding under the iCloud umbrella, which could streamline the user experience.

Update: It’s important to note that the switch to icloud.com is not mandatory for existing users. Those who are creating new accounts or enabling email on their iCloud for the first time will be assigned the icloud.com domain.
