AT&T Reports Over 200% Increase in iPad Activations

Microsoft Office for iPad Release Reported by The Verge

It appears that Apple may indeed experience a surge in iPad sales this holiday season. Although Apple has not disclosed specific sales numbers for the recent weekend, AT&T revealed this afternoon that the number of iPad activations has significantly increased.

According to a press release from the telecommunications giant, activations have tripled compared to the launch of the fourth-generation iPad last year.

Over the last three days, iPad activations on AT&T’s network have increased by more than 200% compared to the launch weekend of last year. This surge is largely attributed to the excitement surrounding the new iPad Air and the continued popularity of AT&T’s Mobile Share plan, which allows customers to add an iPad to their existing data plan for an additional $10 per month.

The strong demand for AT&T Next, which offers iPads with no upfront cost on America’s fastest and most reliable 4G LTE network, also contributed to the significant increase in activations.

While these figures are promising, it’s important to note that the launch of the fourth-generation iPad did not include models capable of LTE connectivity. This distinction likely contributed to the notably higher activation numbers seen during this year’s launch weekend.
