United Airlines Debuts In-Flight iOS Movie Service

United Airlines is set to introduce an innovative in-flight entertainment option specifically for iOS users. This feature allows passengers using iPhones or iPads to utilize the United app to access a library of over 150 movies and 200 TV shows during their flight.

From April onwards, United Airlines will deploy a novel personal device entertainment system on select flights, initially available exclusively for Apple’s iPhone and iPad running iOS 7. This service will enable passengers to enjoy a selection of over 150 movies and nearly 200 TV shows at no extra cost.

United has announced that “The majority of our fleet will soon be outfitted with this new system, aiming to have it installed on most domestic flights by the end of 2014.

The rollout will commence with Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Boeing 747-400, and select 777-200 aircraft, eventually extending to additional fleets. Ultimately, every United-operated flight will offer some form of entertainment.”

Initially, the service will cater exclusively to iOS devices, although users with Mac and PC laptops will also be able to access the entertainment through a browser plugin.
