Apple continues to grow its entertainment portfolio by developing a feature film adaptation of Last Flight Out, the acclaimed Dark Horse comic created by Marc Guggenheim and illustrated by Eduardo Ferigato. The project follows Apple’s successful collaboration with director Sam Hargrave on The Last Frontier, and reports suggest Hargrave is in talks to direct this upcoming sci-fi thriller.

Apple secured the adaptation rights in a seven-figure deal, partnering with Chernin Entertainment for production. Guggenheim will also write the screenplay, while Peter Chernin and David Ready from Chernin Entertainment join Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg from Dark Horse Entertainment as producers.

A Race Against Time on a Dying Earth

Set in the year 2055, Last Flight Out tells the story of a dying Earth and humanity’s last chance to survive through a mass exodus to space. The story centers on Dr. Ben Caewood, the scientist behind the interstellar “arks” designed to save what remains of humankind. However, just before the final ark departs, Ben learns that his daughter, Sara, has gone missing.

With less than a day to spare, Ben embarks on a desperate mission through a collapsing world to find her and secure her passage aboard humanity’s last hope. The narrative combines high-stakes science fiction with emotional depth, offering both thrilling action and a personal story about love, loss, and redemption.

Apple’s Growing Focus on Original Storytelling

The film marks another strategic move for Apple as it expands its slate of high-concept adaptations. After quietly rebranding Apple TV+ to Apple TV earlier this month, the company appears focused on solidifying its identity as a leader in premium storytelling.

With Hargrave’s action expertise, Guggenheim’s storytelling prowess, and the support of major production studios, Last Flight Out is shaping up to be one of Apple’s most ambitious cinematic ventures yet.
