After years of saying Ted Lasso had reached its natural ending, star and co-creator Jason Sudeikis is now looking ahead. As the comedy prepares to return for its fourth season on August 5, 2026, Sudeikis has revealed that he hopes the series will continue for two more seasons.
Although Apple has not officially approved a fifth season, Sudeikis said the creative team plans to reunite after Season 4 begins. Their goal is to develop ideas for another chapter and complete a new three-season story arc. Some concepts originally planned for Season 4 also remain unused and could appear in future episodes.
Why the Story Returned
Sudeikis previously insisted that the original three-season run had finished Ted Lasso’s journey. He said the character’s return to Kansas City to be with his son gave the story a satisfying conclusion. According to Sudeikis, even offers worth more than $1 million per episode did not change his mind because continuing the story at that time felt unnecessary.
However, the overwhelming response from fans eventually changed the conversation. Many viewers shared how the series helped them through difficult times. Sudeikis said the show’s hopeful message also had a positive effect on his own life, encouraging him to revisit the character.
A Fresh Direction for the Series
The new season gives Ted a different challenge. Instead of leading AFC Richmond, he now coaches a second-division women’s football team. Meanwhile, co-creator Brendan Hunt explained that the writers carefully explored whether a meaningful new story existed before moving forward.
Apple supported the revival from the beginning. Reports indicate that CEO Tim Cook had already expressed interest in another season before production officially started. Although filming reportedly experienced scheduling delays, the team completed the season within budget.
Cast Changes and High Expectations
Not every original cast member returns because the new storyline focuses on different characters. Sudeikis personally contacted those who would not appear, saying he wanted them to hear the news directly rather than online.
Writer and actor Brett Goldstein believes the new episodes recapture the charm that made the first season a global hit. While Apple has not confirmed additional seasons, the creative team appears ready to keep Ted Lasso’s optimistic spirit alive if viewers embrace the revival.
