Apple is preparing to upgrade its retail presence in Zurich with a planned store relocation. The company has filed an application to move its current store to Lintheschergasse 7, closer to the city’s main shopping area. Construction is expected to begin in late 2026 and finish by May 2027, with an opening planned for the same summer.
This move reflects Apple’s focus on placing stores in high-traffic zones. As a result, the new location aims to attract more visitors and improve accessibility.

Design Upgrade Without Major Expansion
The new store will feature a refreshed look rather than a large expansion. Plans show a ground-floor retail space of about 4,887 square feet, similar to the current store size.
An additional upper floor, measuring around 5,606 square feet, will serve operational purposes. This space will likely support staff and logistics rather than customer interaction.
Although the total area approaches 10,000 square feet, the actual shopping space will remain largely unchanged. Therefore, the project focuses more on design improvements than scale.
Facade and Layout Enhancements
Apple plans to introduce a modern facade using aluminium panels with a champagne finish. The design also includes updated window framing to create a cleaner look.
Additionally, the entrance will extend outward. This change will reclaim interior space and improve the overall layout. However, Zurich’s building regulations limit major structural changes.
As shown in the plan diagram on page 3, the redesign adds only about 118 square feet of usable space while preserving the original structure.
Strategic Move Over Flagship Ambition
Apple has long searched for a flagship-level location in Zurich. However, the current plan represents a compromise. The new store will offer better visibility and a more modern feel, but it will not match the scale of larger flagship outlets.
Nevertheless, the location places Apple closer to central shopping corridors. This positioning could boost foot traffic and brand presence in a key European market.
A Balanced Retail Strategy
Overall, the Zurich project highlights Apple’s balanced approach. Instead of pursuing size alone, the company is prioritising location, design, and accessibility.
While the upgrade may not deliver a flagship experience, it will modernise the store and strengthen Apple’s presence in the city. As the retail landscape evolves, this strategy may prove just as effective as building larger stores.
