Apple Lakeside Reopens September 12 After Major Redesign

Apple is preparing to reopen its redesigned Lakeside store in Essex, England, after a major upgrade. The refreshed Apple Lakeside will welcome customers from 9 a.m. on September 12, 2026.

The location first opened in October 2007. Nearly two decades later, Apple has updated the store with new shopping, support and accessibility features.

New Apple Pickup and Experience Room

A dedicated Apple Pickup area is one of the biggest changes. Customers can now place orders online and collect their products at a convenient time. Apple has also incorporated sustainable materials into the redesigned space.

Moreover, the store now includes an experience room where visitors can explore Apple products. A designated Genius Bar will provide personalized technical support.

Customers can also attend free Today at Apple sessions. These educational events help visitors develop skills and explore creative interests using Apple products.

Accessibility Takes a Bigger Role

Apple has placed accessibility at the center of the renovation. For example, the store offers tables and seating at different heights. It also includes assisted listening systems and improved visual and acoustic clarity.

In addition, redesigned routes make it easier for wheelchair users to move through the store. These changes aim to create a more comfortable retail experience for a wider range of customers.

Meanwhile, Apple says the renovated location runs entirely on renewable energy, matching its approach at other retail stores.

Part of Apple’s Wider Retail Upgrade

The Lakeside project forms part of a broader effort to modernize Apple’s physical stores. A 2023 report said the company planned to open or renovate 50 locations worldwide by 2027.

Apple entered UK retail with its Regent Street store in 2004. The company currently operates 39 stores across the country. However, its retail footprint will change again when Apple Festival Place in Basingstoke permanently closes in November 2026.

For Essex customers, however, the focus is firmly on Lakeside. The nearly 20-year-old location is returning with a more modern design and a stronger emphasis on convenience, accessibility and hands-on experiences.
