Rig of the Day - Livin' Large

Today's TUAW Rig of the Day entry (the inaugural entry, at that) is Flickr user visualseed's killer multi-display set up. We're talking about three 30" Cinema Displays, one smaller display, a Powerbook and a DV camera with three lenses, each the size of my leg. A G5 sits in the corner, as well as an iSight, a tablet and...what's that...a Dell?!? We'll just let that slide. I guess a pro photographer needs to diversify.
"Mac set up and more" uploaded by VisualSeed.
If you'd like to see your own rig featured here, simply upload photos into our group Flickr pool. We'll select an image every day to highlight.

Just....wow
Suddenly my 15" Studio Display and Mac Mini look very very small.
(And on the side to TUAW - great segment guys, I love looking at other people's Macs)

Sadly, my rig seems to have that much wire clutter, and that's just for a single CRT monitor being shared by my Mac dual G4 tower and my home-built PC, a router, scanner, and a couple of printers. I'm sick of the noise and the heat and the clutter - I can't wait to dump the whole clumsy, noisy mess for a new iMac (once someone confirms Windows booting).

Great setup!
Just the 4 monitors & two powerbooks alone cost a fortune.
Yeah, wires ... got plenty of those too.

Thanks for the comments. I took the time to go back and label everything in the photo with notes. The cables are kind of messy but they look worse because of the angle.
I am in the process of replacing the G5 with a new quad. I will turn the current one into a file server for backing up my aperture libraries. Which will be replacing a quicksilver G4 in the basement currently filling that role.

That's just... too much.
And what's that ugly black box doing under the desk on the left? ;-)

Great rig! And great segment TUAW! Like others here I love checking out other peoples setups.
Excellent idea. Once I am done painting I will submit my setup.

The argument for waiting for the intel pro macs is a good one but there is no indication when they will be released. I would suspect they will be announced in 6 months (at wwdc) and shipping by august. in the meantime I will have lost countless days of productivity waiting on Photoshop/Aperture on the current hardware.
My philosophy has always been if you need it now buy it now. If you can wait then you really don't need it. Next year when things are more settled I'll probably get a MacBook Pro and an intel Pro Mac.

Wonderfully sweet setup. Those 30's are spectacular. Don't think you have any reason to use expose' anymore ;-)
