John Gruber releases new Daring Fireball t-shirts, quits day job

John Gruber has answered the call for more Daring Fireball t-shirts and released two new designs (pictured) in addition to his original (not pictured). As before, purchasing one shirt for $29 (shipping included) will also score you a one year membership to full RSS and Linked List feeds, but now you can purchase additional shirts for $19 each, again with free shipping (bonus points to anyone who can point out the Mac nerdery significance in the POS shirt without cheating and checking John's post). Already established members can purchase any of these shirts at the already lowered price of $19.

Now before you pull that 'if only he wrote more often' complaint out of your back pocket, John has answered that call as well by launching an Initiative - he quit his day job last week to write Daring Fireball full time.

Those membership perks of full RSS and Linked List feeds just got a whole lot more valuable. Yes, I've had a membership for almost a year now (and I'll definitely be renewing), but no - John didn't pay us for product placement.

Glamorgan (#9),
John Siracusa must be one of them, for sure.

The font is Chicago, the font that graced the Mac OS until OS 8, and it was in the original iPod.

About the subscription, there's a couple of perks you get in addition to the warm feeling inside when you become a DF member. First, you get a full-content RSS feed for the website. Doesn't sound like much, but for somebody with 200 feeds in NetNewsWire, it helps a lot.

Plus, something you can't get without a membership, is the Linked List in your RSS feedreader of choice. If you're unaware of the Linked List, it's the most interesting Mac/tech stories, sifted through somebody who gets literally dozens of "ya gotta see this" every day.

Plus, you get this great Daring Fireball membership card. Valid worldwide. That's worth the $29 right there.

Andrew, quit being near-sighted and realize that DF/JG is one of the top 3 Apple analysts out there. $30? Well worth it. If I get a T-Shirt? Cool!

I love Daring Fireball, John Gruber has an awesome writing style. Been reading it for a while, ever since I got my Mac.

That font looks a lot like the font on my sisters old iPod, I think it might be the first generation iPod.

Don't be stupid. The money is basically for a membership to his site. The t-shirts are incidental. Just like the tote bag or CDs you might get for supporting public television.

T-Shirts at a mere $29. Who would buy one of these? Oh, you can purchase two for $48. While I admit that's quite a bargain, you would do better to have your own printed up from the many custom t-shirt shops on the web. It's great that he's going to support himself with Daring Fireball itself but that doesn't mean I'm going to be foolish with my money. Why not sell more shirts for less money, than fewer shirts for more money?

Chicago font, isn't it?

I like the original Daring Fireball shirt a whole lot more than these two. I like the color of that t-shirt and the simple design on the front. I've wanted one but I don't know if I'm willing to pay $29 for it. Although, since Gruber's gone pro, I think I should help him put food in his belly and iTunes songs on his hard drive.
