Widget Watch: Web Translator 2.0

Web Translator is a widget that allows you to translate a web page or text using either Google's Translation service or AltaVista's Babel Fish service. Usage is pretty simple: enter a URL or text, chose the languages and off you go.

This widget seems like a nice addition to Apple's built-in translation widget which only does text.

I just wish these translators could handle common idioms, if you try something like "sister in-law" you get "dans-loi de soeur" en francais... vs belle souer

Oh "tant pis" comes out "such an amount of worse"... vs too bad

Wait 'til you try translating "mon petite chou".... vs a term of endearment (and not a comment on carnal love for vegetables)

The CBC's (Canadian Broadcasting Corp) "Not the Opera" does this thing where they use a translation engine, and translate a popular song into language X, then re-translates that text back into English...and people have to guess what the orginal song was...
