Inquisitor 3, now free
Inquisitor bills itself as 'Spotlight for the web,' and while I'm not sure about that claim I do know one thing: it looks cool. The beta of the 3rd version of this Safari plugin has been released, and the developer has announced that Inquisitor is now free (it was previously €5).Inquisitor only works with Safari, but you can choose between Google or Yahoo for results (and from a number of different localizations of the two).

Well I'm glad I paid for it a couple months ago. Maybe good ol' Dave will give me a credit towards Newsfir...

I've been using Inquisitor for a long time. It is extremely usefull. Displays web results as you type, even suggests what you are typing - and does a pretty good job.
I almost don't use the adress bar any more. I just start typing the url in the search field, and within seconds inquisitor displays the site as a searchresult, then I just select it. It saves me keystrokes everytime I want to visit a site, and saving keystrokes is what personal computing is all about.
Can't wait to try the new version out!

Well. First impressions:
Inquisitor now displays page icons for the search results, pretty nice. But the new black background with white and grey text reduces readability. My eyes have to adapt to the different colors in Inquisitor, and because they are different from the rest of the OS and most websites (use dark text on light background) that actually is tiring. Form over matter.
I'm going to use this new version for the rest of the day, and if I still find it to be tiring I will revert back to 2.6. The new features are not significant enough to justify reduced readability.
The developer shoul offer a white option as it has been suggested by a commenter on his blog. (http://www.newsfirerss.com/blog/?p=146#comments)

Safari should have this by default. And with the free version it seems possible.

I can just see apple buying this up. Seems perfect to be integrated. Really nice application.
Seems to crash if you try to add a custom search engine though...
I would like a few more options too, color would be a start.

Does anyone know of anything like this for Firefox?

Ronald, use Firefox 2 for the search suggestions. I wish Inquisitor still supported Camino.

I'm not gonna try this new beta unless he updates it with a white background option. As it is, Inquisitor does everything I need so I'm in no rush.
I do wanted to put out there a new subject for this thread though. What is your favorite custom search query?
I have to say I really like being able to do a search on gmail without having to open mail.app
This is it right here for all the new people to try out. (Replace the "xx" with "tt" of course.)

I keep going back to safari...I love it. For the mac its the best. Firefox runs slow on my system... Omniweb has its issues. Camino... its Safari with less features. Inquisitor is Awesome Thanks DW!
