Snjór

First it was Snowfall, then LotsaSnow came to my attention, and now Snjór is the current snow related OS X app that has my eye (thanks to Sveinn). Snjór creates little snow like globes that float down your Mac's screen while you are using it (that is to say that this is not a screensaver, but rather an application that draws these little guys on your screen). You can set how many snowflakes fall, how fast they fall, and if you want them to accumulate on top of the active window (seen above).
Snjór is free and Universal, and the developer (the awesomely named Ninja Kitten) promises that the source will be available on December 24th.

How do I change its preferences?

I like this one better. The first two seemed like the same app with different interfaces and slightly different feature sets. I definitely preferr the minimalistic snowflake here but I'd keep this around if for no other reason than to see that glowing white icon in my dock.
To Jason: Click the program icon in the dock, then access the preference panel either through the drop down menu in the menu bar or command ,
Preference changes are a little sluggish to update though.

It's nice, except for two things:
1. when the set amount of snowflakes is at it's max, and all of them are piled on top of your window, no more of them fall.
2. when you move the window, or switch to another app, all the flakes atop one window will ALL fall at the same time, in some cases making this massive white mass fall across the width of my screen, so I cant do anything until they pass.
suggestion to the developer; have it so a certin number of flakes randomly fall off the top of the window every few seconds. That way it still appears they are falling, but the new flakes that fall from the top pile on the window. then they fall, and etc.

this is a nice little app, but it doesn't seem to be landing on the window tops for me. I installed it then restarted my machine, and still no dice.
I wonder what's the deal

Interesting side note, there have been X11 apps that do this for ages. :)

How cool would it be to make this a real snowglobe effect a la Macsaber, so that when you shook up your Macbook it would start to snow... :)

The snow doesn't land on the window tops....Why?

Same here: I can't get Snjor to get the snow to land on the windowtops, despite installation on a G4 iBook, G4 iMac, and a Core Solo Mac Mini. Not that it's the most important thing in the world :), but I thought I'd note it. All are 10.4.8, by the way.
Great job on the effect. Lots of fun, this is.

Hey, MacUser point out this "Seven Snow Applications For The Mac - The Festive Mac 2007" article with good choices. One of them, Snow, reminds me the Snjór concept. Take a look :

Mine aren't landing on windowtops either. iMac core 2 duo, 10.4.8. Tried everything. Nice app, would be nicer if would land on tops of windows.

You need to turn the landing on windows thing on in the preferences. Sorry about that.

Why can't I find the download link for this? Has it been pulled or what? I just see an image when following that link, and I can't even see the full image unless I view in a separate app (scroll bars disabled)

For the snowflakes to land on the window it has to be an active window, otherwise the flakes ignore it. When they pile up on the window and you then make that window inactive (such as clicking on your desktop) the flakes all continue falling.
Very cool.
(tried this on iBook and Intel iMac)
