Apple Store grand openings: Your reports

Earlier today, Apple opened retail stores in the UK and Hawaii. As usual, we asked any TUAW operatives who may have attended to share their reports and/or pictures. So, did you go, and if you did, how was it? Let us know in the comments. Here's hoping you scored a T-shirt (or even won the "Digital Lifestyle Collection!").

The Southampton store is, in all honesty, disappointing. It really is too small. I'm sure the store that was there before had an upstairs floor, but the apple store doesn't appear to. West quay itself is as dire as shopping malls get and I'm disappointed that apple felt they had to place their store in there. But no matter, I can't see that I would ever buy anything in there. For one, the price of accessories is too high, and two, wehn I buy my next mac it'll be from John Lewis in the same mall where I will get an extra years guarantee for free.

My 2c worth.

I was at Southampton this morning too - and have to agree, it was packed! I got quite concerned we were going to get raided by the Fire Brigade at one point for having too many people in the place.

I joined the queue at about 8am, an hour before opening, and was around number 30 so I got my t-shirt!

I'd also like to register another vote for Reading for the next store - there's a perfect space in The Oracle, just opposite Curry's! ;-)

Agreed Ari, I saw that same family! I nearly screamed when I saw the smalled child holding a bag, with an iPod video DRAGGING IT ALONG THE FLOOR!!

Anyway, I was impressed with the genius bar service, they got a bit stacked up, but were calm and helped as best they could. Shame they couldn't fix my PowerBook G4 though (its so old they don't make the parts now :( ) Oh well, perfect excuse to buy a new one!!

Oh and if not a store in Guildford, than Reading is a good site please Apple ;)

It was really busy in Southampton, you couldn't move in the store, I would like to say it was because it was opening day however I doubt it, it'll be like that every weekend, even the staff were saying the store should have been bigger.

By the number of bag seen around West Quay, the store was as busy with sales as people browing, this included the Apple family of five with a macbook each! You gotta love Apple's Marketing Machine.

This is smallest Apple store I've been to, aka 'Apple Store Nano' I kind of like it....hopefully lots more will appear in the UK, Guildford would be good Apple ;)

Hey, good to meet you, Tony! Nice shots, and nice catch on the registers. Apple Store Kahala opening in T-minus 123 minutes...

Camphone photos going to Flickr, video clips collected for YouTube. Good times!

There were no cash registers at the southampton store either, they were using macbook pros to process the orders and wireless chip and pin machines around the store.
