Apple among Gen Y most trusted brands
Ok, Generation Y, which brands do you trust the most (for the record, "Generation Y" is comprised of people between the ages of 21-27)? Outlaw Consulting asked that question to a group they referred to as their "...most forward trendsetter* panelists" across several US cities, and Apple topped the list. According to Outlaw, brands that the subjects viewed as "straightforward" were viewed favorably. Also, plain packaging that seemed to "...avoid excess" scored well. That seems to be consistent with Apple's famed "out-of-box experience," wouldn't you say? Other brands in the top 15 include:
As a representative of Generation X myself, let me say, "Vitamin Water?!? It's just water. I'll never understand kids these days."

"As a representative of...well heck I dunno what they call my generation (very late gen X maybe @ going on 27 yrs old.) I can testify that Vitamin Water is *the bomb*"
I'll second that, as a genuine gen Y'er. Excellent for curing hangovers...
I prefer boomerang generation, actually.
We're been made kinda retarded by boomer parents and teh media, and so, yes, we do trust some corporations. Because we're kinda retarded.
If you look at polls, there's a whole slew of issues where we actually *believe* the hype. But we'll eventually snap out of it, and realize that society changes and we're responsible for managing it, and actually do something more meaningful than brand-identify. Once we find our core we'll see some change. Hence "boomerang."

Vitamin water actually contains "natural/real" fruit flavorings along with vitamins ... Most marketers call people born in the 1990's, the Millenial Generation ...

Some I would add to the list:
Merkur
Shavemac
Truefitt & Hill
Perdomo
They're all "straightforward and avoid excess".
Personally I never cared for being labeled as Generation Y. It sounds generic and makes it seem like we are just a continuation of the characteristics which defined GenX. I think internet generation or "iGen" is more representative of what defines our generation. We are the first generation who doesn't have strong memories of a world without email or the internet.
As far as the list goes, I agree with many of them and am within eyeshot of several of purchases from a lot of those companies. The inclusion of In-N-Out Burger leads me to believe that this survey targeted the Western half of the States only, as I've never seen one (and we even have an American Apparel and H&M at the local mall). Also I have mixed feelings about VW. On the one hand their cars are hip and the company treats its employees well. On the other, they all seem to be driven by professors and trendy soccer moms. I think VW is more of a brand for once GenY turns 30.
I was reading the wikipedia and they state that Gen-X incorporates people from the 60s - 80s and Gen-Y incroporates people from the 70s and 90s.
It also mentions that the people that overlap in the Mid-80s are part of a sub-generation called the MTV Generation...
I was born in 85 and I am SO confused...
From the list of these companies, I can only guess they surveyed all the bourgeois hipsters.

I just read that Gen Y is between 79 and 94. How much does someone born in 79 honestly have in common with smeone born in 94? With how quickly things have changed in that time frame..absolutely nothing. Someone born in 94 is NOT the same generation as me.
