I'm a huge fan of the Apple Newton, and I've written about it several times here at TUAW. I've also spent time playing with a hipster PDA and the D*I*Y templates. Today I noticed a bit of convergence as dougj at D*I*Y Planner has picked up a Newton 2100 of his own, and is loving it.
I won't go into all of the great Newt functionality that I enjoy in this post (look here for some of that), but I do agree with dougj when he says, "The address book and calendar/to-do lists are more than adequate...and the Assistant that correctly interprets 'Remind me to take out the garbage' or 'Lunch with Mary at the club' allows me to manage my time and tasks no matter where I am in any program."
Welcome to the club, dougj! I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay.

Again with the Newton. Please. Stop.
Or start a Newton love website somewhere else, where you can write odes to Newton, Betamax, the Segway, and Windows Vista.

@#1: fuck you.
I don't see you running the site, and since you are not, you do not have a right to complain. If you do not like it, go somewhere else. these people are bloggers, and can write about wahter apple shit they want. The newton was apple, and it still is very useful

@#2: You're right that it's their website, and they can blog about whatever they want. I don't dispute this. Also true that I can "leave" and never come back if I don't like what I see, which is very rare. In fact, this is the first time.
But jot this down in your Newton: I can complain about whatever I bloody well like, when I like. With that, I've decided to stick around because you're such pleaseant company. Cheers.

#1,
First of all, your comment was sarcastic and condescending. If you must criticize, at least do it semi-politely. It also didn't add much to the conversation. Why do you hate the newton? Why shouldn't TUAW discuss it? Just saying something is "dumb" doesn't say much at all.
(Incidentally, I only recall two Newton stories within the last week or so. I'd hardly call that indicative of a "Newton love website.")
Without substance, your words are basically little more than digital graffiti, which almost nobody tolerates.
now, just to show that I am an equal-opportunity critic...
#2,
Your comment would have been good if it weren't for the first line. The opinion you expressed (he doesn't own the site, etc.) is fine and dandy, but when you come straight out of the gate with an insult, that's hardly conducive to open discussion. Like the old saying goes, "you can attract more flies with honey than with vinegar."

(In good humor) I have to say that I think the above is about the funniest thing I've read this week! Only one or two in the past _week_? Makes me want to read here more often! I caught this post thanks to a post on Newtontalk mailing list, or I would never have discovered this...
But back to my point. The Newton was discontinued in 1998. That was a couple ages ago in this fast-paced electronic age. Why is it even being discussed at all? I would think that, therefore, two posts a week would have to be some sort of Newton love! Now, I'm not complaining! We have about a half-a-dozen in my household, and my personal 2100 is sitting behind me rejuicing at the end of the day. ;-)
So, with that in mind, I find #4's comments quite amusing and encouraging. ;-)

@all the above...
There are dozens, if not hundreds of Newton fan sites out there. A quick stop to NewtonTalk will enlighten you to a wonderous world of all things Newton. People may well wonder about this "Newton" facination...Some uninitiated may even believe that it has something to do with Apple being the parent brand. But fortunatly, this is not true. A Newton is a connected or as autonomous as you want it to be. It adapts to you instead of you adapting to it. (today's PDAs all require you to modify how you work in order to fit the PDA's method of organization...this also applies to paper daytimers as well) So, why bother learning something new, let something new learn you!

I apologize to TUAW for my admittedly sarcastic comment, and to any Newton users I may have offended. All twelve of you. I'll just deal with any future Newton posts as best I can.
Otherwise, as you may have guessed, I reserve the right to sarcasm, criticism, bad puns, ribaldry, cantankerousness, evasiveness, half-truths, rebukes, praise, and other forms of digital graffiti, tolerated or not.

Or go and start a trolling site where you can complain to your heart's content about obsolete Apple products being talked about on Apple products blog.
:-)
Seriously, you don't have to read the article. It takes 1 second to scroll past it and go on to the next article. Some people who read TUAW actually enjoy the Newton articles (although the previous posting was only 1 year too late!). Be honest though, new Apple news has been hard to come by in the last few months. Got to post something :-)

Aside from the swearing (I can, just don't here) I agree with #2 with the addition being that with all the negative things going on in the world, and here in America particularly, your griping powers could be put to a much more productive effort. Watch CNN, choose an injustice that has some meaning for you, and go nuts posting your opinion about it on a topic appropriate web site/blog.
This is an Apple blog and should be treated as such.
Perspective people.
