Scribbles simple drawing

Of late there have been several Core Image based image editors released for the Mac. Scribbles does not attempt to be one of them. It is first and foremost for, well, scribbling or doodling. What makes it interesting is the very simple interface, plus the stroke rendering engine that automatically smoothes out strokes. This is particularly apparent when using the mouse to write out letters. Instead of jagged edges you get fluid lines. The interface is designed to be extremely easy to use, and accordingly the tool set is very limited. Nonetheless, there is basic 3D layers support which makes it relatively easy to get some nice effects. My sense is this would be a great drawing application for kids.
Scribbles is $19.95 and a demo is available from atebits. There's also a screencast on that same page worth checking out.

Interesting: You can zoom in and out as far as you want - the "paper" has no borders. Now you can draw an ant sitting on an elephant standing on a ship swimming on an ocean which is a drop of water on the back of another ant. I couldn't do that before. How do I print that?
Bad: The interface is clean and appealing without palettes, but I missed them immediately when I wanted back to a colour I had used before. The tools seem like developed for a 10-button mouse without the functionality already implemented - I ended up endlessly clicking between brush, magnifying glass and dragging tool and felt like a busy ant.

Well, the Help menu has some shortcuts. I tried modifier keys before but got the impression they don't work because the cursor shape doesn't change. But they do, you can zoom and drag around even when you are in brush mode.

Sorry, this, even after watching that screencast, doesn't seem like it's worth $20. A $5 price tag would probably draw in more buyers -- $20 is to steep for a little drawing program.

$20 is indeed expensive, but I like the intuitive interface! I keep it in my app folder...

Is the GUI ugly or does that drawing make it look ugly?
