As part of their feature on Apple we noted earlier in the week, Fortune magazine also has an interview with Steve Jobs that's definitely worth a look. Though frankly a bit annoying to page through, it's chock full of Uncle Steve goodness. There's quite a bit of interesting background on some of Apple's biggest business decisions over the last few years. It's definitely worth a read if you're interested in how the CEO of the most-admired company in the country thinks. In addition, there's also a story by Fortune editor Peter Elkind on The trouble with Steve Jobs. It comes off a bit like sour grapes in places, but nonetheless is also worth the time.

Well its good to know he bends the rules; we all need to sometimes to get things done; just don't do it to an excess.

Wait, sour grapes? Are you saying that the author of the piece wanted to be CEO of Apple but was turned down? Or did he want to have Jobs' accomplishments, personality, and ego, only to be shot down by colleagues and friends?

Peter Elkind didn't get to interview Jobs for the mini-bio he wrote, mainly because the Jobster didn't like the way Elkind was going about trying to dig up dirt on him.
As a result, no interview for him.
Elkind doesn't resist taking as many subtle jabs at Jobs as he can in the piece, up to and including subtly insulting Jobs being adopted, and mentioning that his biological father is working as a mid-level at some Casino outside of Reno....seriously tasteless writing.

Ah. Not a fan of Elkind so I didn't read the article. Thanks.

a "competent tyrant" sure - not unlike music's Buddy Rich - a legend himself.
But even among all that binary behavior - if it means excellent products and re-defining markets, hell even creation of new ones - I'll take it

I must say, as sorry as I'll be to see SJ leave Apple someday (far in the future!!!), I sure am looking forward to reading whatever "tell-all" book be publishes and finally get some sweet insight into the day-to-day life of Apple under SJ. :) What a read!
