Eagle-eyed TUAW reader Gary spotted this job posting over at Yahoo! advertising for Apple Retail workers in Jackson, Mississippi. As of this posting, there are no Apple Stores in Mississippi.Thirty-seven out of our fifty United States have at least one Apple Store. Perhaps that's because California is hogging them all, topping the list with thirty-eight.
If any TUAW readers in the Jackson, MS area spot some suspicious construction, snap a photo and let us know. Here's hoping your store opens soon.
Thanks, Gary!

I live in Ridgeland, MS (the true location of the rumored Apple Store). I have noticed that you can apply for positions at this location on the Apple website under job openings. (http://apple.com/jobs) I live about 3 min. away from the supposed site. I will take any snapshots if I find anything interesting going on.

Yeah, i live in Jackson, MS. I think they are probably building it out in the new parkway out in Ridgeland, MS. That would be my best bet.

Um, this is actually interesting to some of us TUAW readers, especially those of us (including myself) that live in Mississippi.
The closest Apple store is currently about 5 hours away from me. This is GREAT news :)

I've heard rumor of a new Apple store in North County San Diego (Carlsbad, to be exact). Sweet for me since the closest one is 45 minutes away right now. Woohoo!

I'll just point out that there were job postings for a new store that was supposed to be in Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, VA. That was in late 2006, and the store is nowhere to be seen. I wouldn't bother with these, they don't seem to mean much.

Not true. In January 08' a standard empty store cover over the huge furniture store in Fair Oaks now boasts a giant Apple and www.apple.com. Also the upstairs huge old furniture store is covered too.

I stand corrected, thanks for the update. Still, it was well over a year after the job opening was posted.

If you look at the listings it says specifically Jackson, ms Renaissance at Colony Park. Which is the brand new outdoor mall going in right at the Ridgeland / Old Agency exit in between Highland colony and I-55. I have not seen anything yet, but this has me excited that maybe we will see one soon.

@ neodymium Hey, the Baton Rouge, LA store was listed here among many others so what's the big deal? I have friends in Jackson, MS that are not Mac users yet but are interested and that's a huge help! I can tell them to hang in there so they can check 'em out w/o driving to another one far from home or a reseller. ;-)
@ cylonite I would assume that there are 38 Apple Stores in the state of California alone.
Personally, I think there should be at the very least one good sized Apple Store in every major city in the US and worldwide. To make that deal sweeter there should be one flagship store in every State of the US possibly in it's capital city or the largest metro area there. What about Mini Stores? They could easily fill out the rest of the nation since they're located in shopping malls where the general population nearby would be more than adequate to support it.
If Apple plans on using some of that cash on hand I'd recommend that they use it to expand their retail presence .

I have family in Ridgeland, MS, and this has been rumored for months. A huge high-end shopping complex and outdoor mall has been in development for a few years out in Ridgeland, and the Apple store is likely to be located there. Hooray! MS may finally be getting its first Apple Store! Next, we need one in Tupelo, MS! A store in Tupelo would do very well as it's less than an hour away from the two largest universities in the state: Ole Miss & Missisippi State and it's also a very populated business area of Northeast Mississippi.

From what I've heard from a local (I live closer to Memphis than Jackson), the Apple store is supposed to be coming to the new Renaissance community/shopping villa.

Finally, an Apple store in MS! Too bad it's not down on the coast: Apple needs to make a store on the Mississippi or Alabama coastline. The new Baton Rouge, LA store is a little too far away.

Just so you guys know, we *do* have an Apple retailer in the Jackson area already: http://www.userfriendlyjackson.com/
It's not an Apple Store, but it's certainly an Apple store. I'm thrilled that we may get the real deal, I just hope that it doesn't kill off business for User Friendly. They're nice folks.
Oh, and according to the employees at both Best Buy locations, they'll be getting Apple stuff aaaaaaany time now. They've been saying that for a couple of months, but as yet, all you can find there are Apple keyboards and mice.
