Analysts: Sept. 9 event will underwhelm

Some people are never happy. Others are clairvoyant. Now, they've all come together to complain about a press event that hasn't even taken place.

Barron's is reporting
a fall in AAPL yesterday on rumors that the Sept. 9 press event will be underwhelming. While new iPods, iTunes and iPod touch pricing are expected, new Macs are not. Hence the downturn.

This is another example of disappointment over an artificial scenario, which we've seen many times before. Each year at WWDC, Apple observers complain when Steve fails to produce a slew of consumer products. Well, that's a developers' conference, not a trade show.

This is the same thing. The invitation to Tuesday's event suggests "iPod." To expect Macs is silly.

Well the problem is that most expect the iPods to be "evolutionary" not "revolutionary" this time around. Cosmetic changes to the nano and touch don't exactly bring the same excitement that occurred the first time Steve Jobs reached into his jeans pocket and pulled out the first nano. Unless there is a secret hidden product that no one is talking about (in the iPod or iPhone range as this is not a computer event) I think most will be underwhelmed as the iPod is quickly becoming a "mature" product that Apple is having difficulty innovating with anymore.

This event appears underwhelming because the big leak is a cosmetic revision to the nano - a product that in the light of the iPhone doesn't even get my parents excited.
I doubt even Apple thinks that a new version of a click-wheel iPod is worthy of a press event.
No, there has to be more to it than this.

Fantastic opening line. Regardless of what the analysts think, I'm still excited.

My question is: how the hell do they know it will underwhelm before it has actually occurred?

I don't understand. A new iPod it's not enough. What's the surprise. This event is always about ipods.

Forget about all those expecting new macs. My macbook is as good as new.

Nobody even cares about a new mac-mini? Personally, I'm not moving to mac until they bring out something new for the mini. It's years out of date and way overpriced for what it is.

I think something good is going to happen. Look at the timeline people. I think in the past 12 months apple fanatics have been spoiled. iPhone, iPod Touch, the January upgrade(although I hated paying), 2.0 upgrade, App Store, Remote App... you cannot deny it has been a whirlwind of new products, but I think that there are some new surprises in store on Tuesday otherwise there wouldn't be an event no would there? And have faith I think that the MacBook fanatics might get theirs as well.

For me the big event is all about the iPod Touch 2G or whatever they are calling it. All that fun and no phone contract, it all seems to good to be true.

I think there may be some kind of significant crossover of Touch tech used in the Nano, but I don't think we are going to see an "iPod Touch Nano" per se... lol

In other words, Apple has to rock heaven and earth with each and every product announcement, big or small, or else risk being branded "washed up" by these so-called "analysts" (i.e. morons with a grudge).

Is everyone forgetting Jobs' traditional "one more thing" speech towards the end. This could be the place to announce new MacBooks.
