G4 tower table

The door to my garage doesn't have one of those elf doors or a potted plant or concrete gnome. A couple of years ago I acquired a dead G4 tower, the model affectionately termed "mirrored drive door G4." After gutting it down to the fan and a few cables, I set it outside my door. Why? Sometimes I'm carrying an arm load of items and have to set something down to unlock the door. This tower table is the perfect height to sit a glass of water down while I get my keys. Notice how the mirror finish, even after years of exposure to the elements, is still pristine.

Have you seen any old Macs pulling odd duty? Aside from aquariums, of course.

At my store we use some Macintosh SE/30's as doorstops. Our customers love it!

And as for the rest of the comments here... you don't pay for the privilege to read this blog, nor do you in any way, shape or form foot the bill to pay the writers.

If you don't like what someone posts, you don't have to read it. But don't waste your time whining and complaining about it either.

It's obvious that Victor was simply posting this because it's not uncommon at all for people to use old computer hardware in some weird way (such as a table or doorstop), and he was inviting you, the reader, to share your stories in the comments. I don't think anyone's life was lessened by this post.

Well... except maybe the G4's.

The school district I used to work for had a Mac SE for a doorstop. They even wrote 'Macnstop' on the top with a Sharpie.

I had the same MDD G4 that I thought was "dead". Turns out it just needed a PMU reset (a teeny tiny little reset button on the logic board to reset the internal power management circuits).

I did that and it booted up instantly. Hasn't been a problem since.

Gee.. I hope you checked that before you gutted the poor thing.

Yeah, I really wanted to rescue this one but a certified tech ensured it was dead as a hammer. Pity, I know.

Still running two of the MDD Powermacs -- one used by my son the other by my daughter.

Shame about the "table" as I know a few PC enthusiasts who have converted their WinBox into a PC/MDD (Apple changed the motherboard design so that the rear slots matched grey PC boxes).

Reminds me of that Eric Cartman song where he sings, "..in the ghetto!"

Nice, you have a rotting piece of garbage sitting outside of your door. Why would you take a picture of the insides which are rusting out?
