Flickr Find: Apple Store Carosello opening in Milan, Italy
Ahhhh, Milano! The name makes me think about the Milan Cathedral, La Scala, fashion models, and the aggressive drivers in that city. And now, when I think of Milan, I can also fondly think of the new Apple Store Carosello. TUAW reader Filippo sent us a link to his Flickr gallery of the opening earlier today, which appears to have attracted a huge crowd of Apple fans. PhilApple, as he is known on Flickr, also captured the traditional "running of the geeks" in a short video upload. This is the well-known phenomenon in which the first customers are greeted by the applause, cheers, and general silliness of the Apple Store employees and other customers.
While I wish Apple had chosen to place the store in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in the Piazza Duomo, reputed to be the world's oldest shopping mall, I'm happy for the Milanese to now have their very own Apple Store. Grazie, Filippo, for this set of photos!

It makes me think of the trademark Pepperidge Farm cookies.

Yes it is 15 miles away (17 km actually, a little less than going from times square to newark, just to give you an approximate idea) because the store is in Carugate, not Milan. If the Ikea store over there is called Ikea Carugate, I don't see why they should keep calling it the Apple Store Milan.
Truth is, I think that the big stores that have an apple-branded corner (a mini apple store) of their own are lobbying against the opening of a full fledged store in the city center.

The one in Rome is quite far from the city center as well. I think it really makes sense in both areas to have a store well outside the lunacy of our city centers.
Reaching a store within Milan is almost always a nightmare; Carugate is close to the highway and very easily reachable. Good choice.
