Power Mac G5 turned time-teller
There's a sequence of pictures on his site showing how he did it. It's all in Japanese, so you'll only be able to read it if you happen to be fluent. But it looks pretty simple -- drill a hole in the side of the case, install a battery operated clock, shine a light on it, and voila, instant Mac centerpiece. Apple products don't die, they just change function!

This is great, and highly appropriate for the tick-tocking away of the year -- Japanese modder Nobon had an old Power Mac G5 (case, it...

this is not cool. this is stupid. this is what old ladies do with store bought clock kits and old dishes at craft fairs. You poke a hole in the side panel and you're done. I'm going to go take a dump on the floor and jam a watch in it, and hope TUAW makes a post about it.

December 31 2009 at 2:54 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyStep 1: go to a craft store and buy a clock mechanism. Step 2: drill a hole in something. Step 3: install the mechanism. Am I missing something? As mods go this is about one step past "put a sticker on it."
December 31 2009 at 12:47 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI would at leas set the clock to show relatively exact time: the minute hand is at "12" while the hour hand is somewhere between "2" and "3". Now what time is it? 2 or 3 !?

It also tells time, not to mention a few other things.

And now THAT is really cool.
"Like most users, I usually hide my actual boxes under the desk or in a cabinet, but if any of my computer cases were as beautiful and functional as that, I'd put them out front and center."
uh, seriously?
it's a G5/Mac Pro case with 3 black lines intersecting and centered on the logo. which, to be honest, is arguably not much more visually stunning than a Mac Pro case without the hands. yet this would be the deciding factor between placing your computer hidden under the desk as opposed to on top of it in plain view?
you're putting the pussy on a pedestal.
What a waste of a still very useful computer. I am using an iMac G5 running Leopard as my primary computer. The other ones in my home are older iMac G3 computers that are still useful. Why not donate the computer to any charitable organization that could put it to better use then making the aluminum case into an analog clock. The only good thing is that the case did not end up in a land fill.

"Honey, what time is it?"
"Um,... half past the leaf!"
