Apple to stream video of tomorrow's live event

It looks like Apple has decided that it's finally time to let the public in on their press events -- the company will be streaming live footage from the event tomorrow on its website. Traditionally, the company has depended on third parties (like, ahem, us -- we'll still be metaliveblogging the event here on TUAW, don't worry), but it looks like tomorrow's event is free for everyone to watch.

That's assuming things all go to plan, of course -- it'll likely be tough for even Apple to keep up with the demand of streaming out live video to what must be millions of people around the world. Apple's PR release says that the stream will be up on Apple.com tomorrow at 10am PDT, and that it will be viewable on Macs with Safari and Snow Leopard installed, or iPhones, iPod touches, and iPads running iOS 3.0 or higher.

So tune in tomorrow morning -- we'll see if Apple can handle the demands of its hungry customers on live streaming day. And even if not, we'll be here with all of the information you need anyway.

I miss the days when Apple would provide us with transponder coordinates to grab the sat feed for these things.

"Traditionally, the company has depended on third parties ..."?

On most events, some hours later--not even a day, the keynote is available on Apple's website or via podcast, that's how I watch them :)

They're definately testing their servers, and DEFINATELY announcing apple TV. Someone 'in the know' on already leaked the iTV announcement on twitter (one of the dev team guys). iPod touch is 100% and the new nano 100% (unless they call it something else.)

I don't think they'll retiire the 'classic' till next year or 2012... They'll let it have a 10th aniversery edition.

TUAWT said: Reason for streaming only to Macs: Lessen the bandwidth issues that will inevitably happen.

Feel sorry for the cell-network(s) if this is viewable on iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch.

I think if http://creativeLIVE.com can handle 5,000 ++++++ viewers I think Apple will be fine. Its about time they took these events live.

Did anyone else notice how they mention that HTTP live streaming is based on open standards and then say that an Apple made product is required?

It's good that they are streaming the event. Maybe they finally learned that having too many people there all using the internet to live blog the events was a bad idea. Shouldn't be any issues with some onslaught of MiFi's all disrupting Apple's signal, but we shall see.
