Twitter officially suspends parody @CeoSteveJobs account

As reported by Geeksmack last night, Twitter has suspended the @ceoSteveJobs account. We mentioned back in January that a new law in California prohibiting online impersonations put the account at risk, and Twitter had asked for changes. Apparently the description "More than meets the i. As you should expect from a parody account" wasn't enough to prevent Twitter from shutting the parody account down.

When we retweeted Robert Scoble last night with this news, the replies to the news on the TUAW account were unanimously disappointed. Of course, most of us understood it was a parody, but in June of 2010 the Daily Mail quoted a tweet they thought was really from Steve Jobs.

Let's face it, Steve has far more important things to do than post to Twitter all day. Oddly enough I'm able to get to the @ceostevejobs page in Firefox but not in Safari.

This is one of the things I like about sites like speakbin.com. They make you actually speak into the mic. If you're not steve jobs, you're not going to sound like steve jobs. it kind of makes users accountable for what they say but isnt too much like youtube or something.

Really TUAW? You put a lot of research into this.

He changed his user name, of course using his old handle won't load his page.

he wasn't "deleted" he changed it to fakeceosteve

Maybe "real news" outlets *shouldn't* use Social networking sites to report "facts"

Gillan, you need to pull your head out of your ass and learn the facts!!!

CNN does a fine job with their Twitter Report, each and every day.
I'm just glad that Idiots like you aren't doing the reporting!!!

ceostevejobs account is still working, just received an update:

Media covering today's iPad event should use proper APple Style.

I see both sides of this. REAL NEWS OUTLETS took information from this account, and ran it as news.

On the other side, all of the "good" "parody" names for Jobs are pretty well claimed up.

I'm not sure the Daily Mail qualifies as a real news outfit though I'm sure they would be flattered by the compliment.

95% of my Starred Tweets got erased when this happened. So disappointed. I hope he can bring it back with a different username. It was freaking hilarious!

I was a big fan of the account, but it could be easy to see why some people wouldn't understand it (you should never underestimate human stupidity).

You can now find him over at @ijobsy (he even makes a joke out of the situation).

That's just a bit sad, I was actually following this account because it made me chuckle every now and then. Doesn't Apple have more important matters to attend to? The tweets from this account have never been offensive, insulting or misleading or something, and you'd have to be extremely naive and gullible to believe this was the real Steve Jobs twittering.
