Macitt giving away a Macbook

Have you heard of Macitt? It is a Digg-like site that concentrates on Apple news only, none of that wacky Linux stuff or distasteful Windows tips to clutter up the site. Our friends at Macitt let us know that they are giving away a MacBook this month, and all you have to do is participate on the site. 3 stories, 3 comments, and 3 Macitts is your formula for getting a new MacBook (or at least being entered into the contest). The contest ends June 30th, so get Macitting while the getting is good.

Don't forget that TUAW is a great source for submissions to a variety of social news sites. I'm just saying.

Win a Mac mini and other prizes from Macitt during year of monthly contests

Macitt, a social Mac news site from Apple Matters a lá digg and Netscape, has announced a year of monthly sponsored contests for 2007. For January, they're kicking off strong with a Mac mini. The only thing you need to do to enter the contest is participate in 3's each day: either 3 macitt votes, 3 comments, or 3 story submissions per day. Users are allowed to enter each day, but spamming and gaming the system are of course not allowed: no one-word answers, and no links to your mother's blog about knitting (though it might fly if she knit, say, an afghan with an Apple logo).

Apple Matters launches Macitt, Apple-focused social news site

I knew something was up when I noticed my Apple Matters feed turn brown in NetNewsWire (that color means the feed hasn't been updated in over 60 days), and sho 'nuff, I was right. Today Apple Matters launched Macitt, an Apple-centric social news site (or: 'digg clone', if you wanna go that route). Logins for Apple Matters will also work for Macitt, and all the typical social news features seem to be present. A tabbed panel with a list of categories adorns the top right of the page, while accompanying tabs list top users, a tag cloud and a submit section. Yea, that's right: a big advantage Macitt has over digg's system is tagging, which other social news sites seem to be adopting more and more often.

Ultimately, it looks like a strong offering that will probably be well-accepted as long as the word gets around, but I'm starting to worry about an overabundance of social news services. After all, a guy can only take so much socializing before he starts mis-tagging headlines and forgets to vote.
