As holiday shopping ramps up, Apple has introduced a longer return window for customers who buy gifts ahead of Christmas. The extended policy gives buyers more flexibility during one of the busiest seasons of the year. The updated rules apply to most items purchased between November 12 and December 25, offering returns through January 8.
More Time for Holiday Shoppers
Apple adjusts its return policy every year during the festive period, and this year follows that pattern. Shoppers now have several additional weeks to exchange or return products. The change helps customers who may buy gifts early but face delays in giving them out.

The policy covers major hardware products such as iPhones, iPads, Macs, and accessories. This makes it easier for people who receive gifts that don’t quite fit their needs. For example, someone who unwraps an iPhone in a color they don’t prefer can exchange it without rushing back to the store.
Important Exceptions to Know
Although most devices qualify, Apple lists a few limits. Items purchased through consumer financing must follow the regular return rules and do not get the holiday extension. Apple also warns that mobile carriers set their own cancellation terms. Returning an iPhone or iPad does not automatically close a cellular plan, so customers must contact their carrier to avoid extra fees.
Gift cards are another likely exception. Apple has typically excluded them from extended returns in past years. While the current policy does not directly mention gift cards, customers should expect them to remain non-returnable.
Software purchases fall under a small technical rule as well. Apple states that customers may return software only if the seal remains intact. Although digital downloads dominate today’s market, the policy still appears in the company’s general guidelines.
A Seasonal Convenience for Apple Customers
Apple’s extended return window removes stress from holiday gift-giving and encourages early shopping. The company also decorates its stores for the season, creating a festive environment for customers browsing for presents.
With the extra time in place, shoppers can buy confidently and avoid last-minute crowds. The policy gives gift recipients flexibility as well, ensuring they can exchange items without the pressure of a short deadline.
