Apple has started rolling out its new hypertension notifications feature to eligible Apple Watch users in India. First revealed alongside the Apple Watch Series 11 in September, the feature relies on the optical heart sensor and 30 days of activity data to identify trends that may signal elevated blood pressure.
Only select models are supported: the Apple Watch Series 9 and newer, along with the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and later versions. The Apple Watch SE is not included. To access the feature, users must pair their watch with an iPhone 11 or newer running the latest iOS release, keep Wrist Detection turned on, and meet Apple’s requirements—being at least 22, not pregnant, and not already diagnosed with hypertension.

Continuously analyses a month’s worth of sensor data
The tool is designed to flag potential early indicators of high blood pressure, a condition that can develop without obvious symptoms while affecting major organs. After activation, the watch continuously analyses a month’s worth of sensor data. If it detects worrying patterns, users receive an alert. The Health app walks users through a straightforward setup process, covering age checks, relevant medical history, and final permissions.

If the watch issues a notification, it prompts users to start a Blood Pressure Log. Since Apple Watches cannot directly measure blood pressure, a separate cuff is required. Users can then manually enter systolic and diastolic readings into the Health app and are encouraged to review the results with a healthcare professional, ideally bringing along the full seven-day log.
Apple notes that the feature is not intended to diagnose or treat hypertension and may not identify every case of high blood pressure. It also cannot detect cardiac emergencies such as heart attacks; the company advises seeking immediate medical help for severe chest pain or related symptoms. Additionally, the feature remains unavailable for anyone who has marked an active pregnancy in the Health app.
