Apple Intelligence appears to be one step closer to launching in China. A recent regulatory filing suggests the company’s AI platform has passed another important approval stage. Although Apple has not announced an official release date, the latest development signals meaningful progress.

The update follows months of work between Apple and its Chinese partners. Earlier this year, Apple briefly enabled Apple Intelligence in China by mistake. That accidental rollout hinted that the technical side of the project was already complete.

Alibaba Plays a Major Role

Apple partnered with Alibaba to help meet China’s strict AI regulations. In June 2026, Alibaba introduced a new version of its Qwen AI model. The company also confirmed that the model will work with Apple Intelligence in China.

Reports also suggest Apple will use technology from Baidu for selected AI features. While Apple has not confirmed that partnership, earlier industry reports pointed to Baidu supporting functions such as Visual Intelligence.

China’s Rules Shape Apple’s Strategy

China requires foreign companies to follow strict rules before offering generative AI services. As a result, Apple needed local partners with existing government approvals. Those requirements differ from the process Apple follows for regular iOS software updates.

OpenAI remains unavailable in China because of these regulations. Therefore, Apple relied on approved domestic companies to bring its AI platform to the country. However, some analysts believe local partnerships could affect how Apple Intelligence handles certain content.

Official Release May Come Soon

The latest filing does not guarantee an immediate launch. Even so, it marks another important milestone after more than two years of preparation. Apple has not commented on the regulator’s decision, leaving the final rollout timeline uncertain.

If Apple receives the remaining approvals, users in China could soon access Apple Intelligence on supported iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro devices. That launch would expand Apple’s AI platform into one of its most important global markets.
