iPhone 17 Pro Cases Can Fit the New iPhone 18 Pro

Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro brings major upgrades inside, but its familiar exterior offers an unexpected benefit. Most iPhone 17 Pro cases should continue working with the new model.

Apple lists both phones at exactly 150 mm tall, 71.9 mm wide and 8.75 mm deep. Therefore, users upgrading this year may not need to buy another case.

Pro and Pro Max Keep the Same Dimensions

The same compatibility advantage extends to Apple’s larger models. Both the iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 18 Pro Max measure 163.4 mm by 78 mm by 8.75 mm.

Moreover, Apple retained the physical features that matter for case design. These include the Action button, volume controls, side button and Camera Control. The USB-C port and full-width camera platform also remain.

However, the new phones are far from unchanged internally. The iPhone 18 Pro adds the A20 Pro chip and redesigned cooling. It also introduces a 48-megapixel main camera with variable aperture. Apple managed to fit those upgrades into the same exterior dimensions.

Apple Stops Short of Guaranteeing Compatibility

Despite the matching measurements, Apple does not officially promise cross-generation case compatibility. Its new Silicone and TechWoven cases list only the iPhone 18 Pro generation as compatible. Meanwhile, older cases continue to name their corresponding iPhone 17 models.

Still, there is further evidence that standard cases should work. Before Apple revealed the final specifications, OtterBox packaging appeared with compatibility labels for both Pro generations.

Specialized Cases Need Extra Attention

Most conventional silicone, leather and plastic cases should fit normally. Their corners, edges and front lips should also line up because the chassis dimensions match.

However, buyers should check highly precise cases before reusing them. Tight camera rings, built-in lens protectors and exact button covers could cause problems. Apple does not publish every lens height or precise button coordinate.

Overall, an iPhone 17 Pro case should fit an iPhone 18 Pro. Likewise, Pro Max cases should transfer between generations. Still, users with specialized designs should confirm the fit before relying on an older case.
