Apple has released visionOS 27, bringing a broad set of new features to its spatial computing platform. The update focuses on artificial intelligence, customization and productivity rather than major visual changes.
Following a summer of beta testing, visionOS 27 is now available to the public. The release also shows that Apple continues to develop the platform despite reportedly reducing its Vision Pro hardware team.
Siri AI Enters the Spatial Computing World
Siri AI stands among the biggest additions. Apple has brought the upgraded assistant to visionOS as part of its wider OS 27 rollout. The system uses revamped Apple Foundation Models to power its AI capabilities.
However, Siri works differently inside the spatial interface. When summoned, the assistant appears as a 3D sphere within the user’s environment. Users can grab the sphere and place it on a desk or another convenient location.
Afterward, users can simply look at the sphere and start speaking. In addition, the new Siri app keeps a record of interactions.
Visual Intelligence Expands What Vision Pro Can See
visionOS 27 also adds Visual Intelligence. The feature lets users ask questions about objects and information within their field of view. It analyzes what the user sees alongside a prompt to provide relevant information.
Meanwhile, personalization receives a significant upgrade. Users can transform their own panoramic photos into 3D spatial environments. Apple also added a Thorsmork environment featuring Icelandic scenery, auroras and a bubbling creek.
Safari and Productivity Get More Spatial
Safari now offers a tab view that places pages horizontally around the user. Therefore, people can swipe between multiple tabs while researching or browsing.
Moreover, visionOS 27 adds curved windows, a Virtual Mac Display widget and Quick Look support for 3D models. Apple has also improved Wi-Fi startup connections, Messages syncing and notification access.
