Silly Survey Sunday: How many Widgets do you use?
One of Tiger's biggest features is Dashboard and the accompanying Widgets. It also happens to be one of the more controversial features (did Apple copy it? Is it just Desktop Accessories reborn?).All of that aside, we here at TUAW want to know: how many Widgets, and which ones, are on your Dashboard?
I only have two active at the moment, the Apple Weather widget and SysStat. How about you?

I'm new to OS X. I almost immediately decided they were worthless gimicks, and haven't used any. On review, I see I wasn't far wrong. Many do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING OF USE for a person outside of major cities or North America (eg maps, weather, etc). We already have a clock with date on the menu bar. I think the calculator should be useful (better than the Classic calculator), and perhaps the dictionary, unless it has only USA almost-English. I should check to see.
August 17 2005 at 7:37 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWeather Dictionary Flight Information Calculator Yellow Pages (use if often for business lookups) Two clocks (Local and International) Calendar (no longer need to go to Entourage) Convert (mostly for currency exchange rates) I like the widget concept because I can choose the ones I want to display based on the type of information to which I want quick access.

July 01 2005 at 3:31 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhy are so many people whining about display space? I layer my widgets because some of them I don't use often, but like to keep up like Translate and Dictionary. Phone Book doesn't require much space and it will overflow another widget when you use it. So, on my 12" Powerbook, I have 13 widgets open. 1. Calculator (It's amazing how much I use it!) 2. Google (I think they could have slimmed that red box down some.) 3. TV Tracker 4. Transmit 5. Sticky 6. Weather 7. iTunes 8. Translate 9. Dash Monitors 10. Dictionary 11. Yahoo! Traffic (Very handy). 12. Phone book. 13. Address Book (Seems better than keeping the app open.) All of that on a 12" screen. Layer your widgets and you can enjoy even more widget happiness.
