Nine Inch Nails releases "Only" for GarageBand, more

trentBack in April Trent Reznor, the brains behind Nine Inch Nails, released a GarageBand version of "The Hand That Feeds," encouraging fans to have at it and create their own remixes. Echoing the Sound even held a fan remix contest. Really cool.

Well Trent has done it again. This time he's released the current Nine Inch Nails single, "Only," for Garageband, Ableton Live and  Digidesign Pro Tools LE/TDM/M-Audio.  Trent writes at nin.com: "
Again, there is no agenda here other than for you to explore, experiment, and have fun with it. Depending on how this goes we may construct a more formal community for remix postings and/or possibly some sort of 'official' endorsement by means of an EP or something." Now that's just cool. Have fun, TUAW'ers!

Yeah- tracks for everyone... except those pesky PC users heh heh heh... Guess that makes his statements not so true though. Sucks for the PC users- seems unfair.

Here's my remix. Done completely on a Mac with ProTools. Enjoy! Feedback is always appreciated. http://www.spewgrass.com/music/jack/only_jack.mp3 -MC Jack in the Box

Unfortunately I'm getting a message of "You cannot register at this time" when I attempt to register or login to the download page for "Only."

I don't think there's an agenda -- I think he really does like listeners playing around with his tracks. Trent's cool like that. Frankly, though, it's a great promotional tool. Other bands who DO have agendas should pick this up! Peter

This is a very cool idea. I am glad that Reznor has decided to keep doing this after the first single. Though my suspicions are that promotion may be an unannounced part of his agenda. Not that there is anything wrong with that. We all benefit.

Nice. It's interesting how Apple is getting behind this: the Garageband disk image is being hosted by Apple themselves, if I interpret the links correctly!

It's cool TR is doing this, more artists should do this, it's a great way to connect to fans. Here's a link to my mix: http://www.iodine.org/archives/2005/06/only_remix.php.
