500,000,000th song downloaded from the iTunes Music Store

500kAccording to Apple, the 500,000,000th song has been downloaded via the iTunes Music Store. Which means, someone out there has 10 new iPods, a mountain of free music and a date with Coldplay in their pocket. Was it you? It wasn't me, but we at TUAW say congratulations to that one lucky music fan. And by the way, you don't have a spare iPod lying around, do you?

I didn't win either. :( Could do with a couple of (or ten) iPods. P.S. DO NOT read Half Blood Prince - it is the worst book ever written by JK, and in fact by anyone in the UK, seriously, it is truly awful.....and Dumbledore dies - oh yeah, and it's 607 pages.

Darn this is so dissapointing. I really meant to pay attention to this so that I could be the ONE! But nooooo, I was to busy reading this book, you see, that came out at midnight on Friday. Possibly it has gotten a little more attention than the iTunes half a million mark because the little book with a cover price of $29.99 was actually going for around 18 bucks at many places and had pre-orders fpr 800,000 copies or so. Holy Hogwarts! Oh wait, don't take that literally, Pope Benedict thinks Hary Potter is unholy indeed. Bet he hasn't read the books. I wonder if the audio book is up on iTunes yet? Now *that* would drive up sales faster than a half-blood prince. By the way, it was worth it. For those reading this who would scorn my descent into Potterland, it was funny as heck. Really. 652 pages of laughs ain't bad. But I wish I had even 1 Ipod. Steve - if you add the audio book and it sells huge dollars, be sure to send me an iPod. In the words of Arrowsmith - Dream on. At least I read my copy free! Peter, The Peter Files http://thepeterfiles.blogspot.com/2005/07/where-to-find-free-copies-of-harry.html

I had the "Are you sure you want to buy" button ready for the right moment, then when it came I pushed it and iTunes brought up a window with my account information. I guess I had to put in my 3-digit security code first, grrr. Then I read that one guy had two windows open simultaneously and there was a 5,000 song difference. I'm hoping it was 5,000 ahead because I ended up purchasing the song anyway. Since I prefer my music to be DRM free, I made sure to purchase an iTunes exclusive: a track from the AOL sessions with the Cure. Fishes, narco.
