Apple, The Gap to offer iTunes promotion?

itunes_logoFree music just for trying on a pair of jeans? Could it be true? Reportedly, The Gap will introduce four new styles of jeans in August, as well as a series of "Find Your Favorite" in-store events. Shoppers who try on one of the new styles will be rewarded with a code for a free song from the iTunes Music Store.

Print ads are expected in August, followed by television ads featuring pop musicians singing their favorite songs while wearing their favorite Gap jeans. CD's of these songs will be available for sale at The Gap.

So I'm limited to just one pair of jeans? Too bad, I was ready to walk into the changing room with an armload.

When I saw this posting, I thought there was finally going to be gapless playback. wtf. Was I wrong. If anything, they are adding Gap (or Gap is adding Apple). Someday, maybe, there might be such a thing as gapless playback on iTunes and the iPod. >sighs wistfully<

Apple prolbably has good contacts to Gap since Millard "Mickey" Drexler (ex-CEO of Gap) is one of Apple's board of directors.

Ok this went downhill... GAP bashing... guys talking about their butt looking big... yea... My problem with the GAP and most of the quasi-GAP clothing stores is that walking in everyone is trying to be so damn hip. I feel like Holden Caulfield and it just depresses me to see people thinking they really need this crap to feel good about themselves... but I digress. Their jeans are comfy though.

connection: Gap CEO Millard Drexler joined the Apple board back in 1999; he was prolly brought on board to help get the Apple Stores rolling.

Matthew, again I'm with narco (comment #6) and... I'm just not a Gap fan. Apple isn't going to lure me in there with a free song. Maybe if I had Andrew Kaufmann's butt (comment #7). Furthermore, I don't go places just because Apple is pimping stuff at that store. I'm not a...wait, I went to MacWorld... I just don't like The Gap, ok?!?!?!

I am going to be all over that. First off, Gap jeans fit me really well -- other jeans make my butt look too big. So I'd be all about trying on the new styles anyway. Not only that, there's a Gap every 100 yards in the part of Dallas I'm in... I could literally hit 3 of them and only drive about 2 or 3 miles. AND get some jeans in the proccess. That fit my butt. I'm not going to comment on the labor statements, as I'm not that hip in my politics and haven't heard that the Gap is about that. If they are, then I certainly don't condone it.

Matthew, I highly doubt "all" clothing businesses hire child labor. Even if they all did, it doesn't automatically make it acceptable. Anyway, this is hardly the appropriate forum for such an argument-- I shouldn't have even made that statement in the first place. Fishes, narco.

I'm thinking it will probably cost more than $0.99 in gas to drive to and from the Gap.
