What podcasts do you listen to?

microphoneIt's Monday and we've been with iTunes 4.9 for a while now, and I was wondering what podcasts you listen to on a regular basis via iTunes, if any. I must admit, I've started listening to a few, even though I was once upon a time a bah-humbugger about the whole podcasting thing. Here's my list of subscriptions (including a few video casts): And then of course, I am also subscribed to TUAW's podcast, my own podcast, and Scott's podcast. What podcasts do you listen to and why?

I tend to shy away from tech podcasts since I'm already getting enough through 'regular' regular rss. My favorite podcast is probably . It's recorded by an airline pilot with interviews and anecdotes about flying. It's very professionally done with a real NPResque feel. Check it out.

I listen to One for the Thumb (Steelers Podcast), Grassroots Music, and I like to listen to the ESPN Radio and ESPN Mix when they update. Updating podcasts is probably my biggest gripe with the way podcasting works. I get fed up with podcasters changing urls and such so that my subscribtions get borked. I think I would enjoy podcasts a lot more if they worked more regularly and reliably. For me, if I had a long commute (like I might in a year when I go to grad school) and got in my car to listen to podcasts and the thing didn't download because the subscription was screwed up, then podcasts instantly become more of a hassle than convenience.

It's funny how people always say they only listen to something in the background and thus, only listen to music. As a serious music lover, I find music more distracting than spoken material. After all, the Miles Davis Quintet (any lineup), for instance, is five voices all going simultaneously, whereas spoken material is usually only one. I find listening to something spoken at work actually occupies just enough of my ADD-addled brain to help the rest of my brain focus on the task at hand. A lot of what I listen to is audiobooks from the library or downloaded over usenet but I subscribe to these podcasts as well: Democracy Now! Counterspin Al Franken Skepticality Make Magazine KCRW film reviews KEXP live performances KEXP new music Mostly Mariners Engadget There's probably something else, but I can't remember.
