Apple plans "special event" for Sept. 7
Earlier today, Apple released press invitations for a "special event" that will take place on September 7th at the Moscone Center San Francisco. According to Macworld, the invitations bear the cryptic phrase: "1000 songs in your pocket changed everything. Here we go again." Let's hope Apple provides a webstream of the day's activities. And before you ask, let me say, No, I won't be mentioning you-know-what in this post.

iPhone with 5GB hard drive will certainly rocks!!
I got to play with the iTunes Java app in my E398 for a few months now, but it has a capacity limit of only 25 songs with the expiration sometimes in Oct. this year. Funny thing is that it would only connect to iTunes in Windows not Macs...
I assume that the iPhone's pictures (e398 based) that floating around are only a testing hardware, nothing more than that. The real star of the show on Sept 7 however, will have some Apple's touches to it.

This reminds me of a guy I know. We all know hes gay... but he wont come out.
In this case.. apple are in the closet about iPhone because close minded people will hurt them.

yep....video ipod or some type of pda iLife device...music, photos and video....already got 2 out of three...
i don't know, but I will throw it out there. do you think it is it possible to run the dashboard widget applets on a ilife type device ? that would certainly be a neat way to add additional functionality to a "video" ipod and out of the box have tons of software written for it...I know I am dreaming, but what the hell....

My guess is that it has something to do with video. I think that the iphone will just be a continuation of the current music stuff.
When the say, "Here we go again", it's like they are starting a new area.

It is either the I-phone or the Ipod Video. I hope it is the video, but I really hope they just make it "Ipod Video" and not extend it into the original Ipod, then, it will cost $1000 and you won't be able to buy it. Well, really, I hope it is the video, but it will most likely be the Iphone.
Also, you then have to look at Paris. Something big will be announced there. It won't be Ipod related that is for shure. So, it is either going to be a new airport system, new Mac, Tablet, Newton, or other.
But then again, there is the Ipod Flea.

They didn't come out and say that Motorola would be involved in/present at this press event. If they had, it'd be a dead give-away, but I have a hard time believing they'd make this big a deal about a joint product with another company. Unless it's going to be a purely Apple phone....
I've given up on guessing, after the Mighty Mouse came out of nowhere and bit me on the ear, but I still hold out hope for a handheld. I fully expect to have to wait until the new Intel chips are in place for that, though.

Newton...Newton...Newton!
Actually, I'm still holding out for a Mighty Mouse Trackball, but I'm realistic and I know that that'll stay in my dreams right next to Jennifer Anniston ... She's single now, you know?
"1000 songs in your pocket changed everything. Here we go again." - Okay, I'll go out on a limb and say that this quote has less to do with the iPod mini (after all does the mini outsell the larger iPod?), and more to do with ITMS ... in a round about way. I'm betting that the announcement is not going to pertain to hardware, but to another over the internet download service - namely, buy all your Macintosh software directly from Apple and download it directly to you computer instantly.
Although I do think that I have a chance with Jennifer Anniston, so I have to be delusional. So, don't listen to me really!
I think I'll stick to my original premise - Newton...Newton...Newton...

Actually it's both a portable video player and a G5-based media plalyer (Including HD-DVD) that hooks to your home entertainment center and that the portable will dock with. This is the source of the mac mini G5 rumors, though there will not technically be a mac mini G5. Portable video is nice, but it's basically useless unless you can watch it on something more substantial.
Mark my words!

Why would Apple want to enter the over-crowded mobile phone market? What is there to gain from iPhone? Mobile phones do not have the aesthetic of the iPod. The iPod is niche. Apple are really going to want to cash in on Xmas sales of iPods - the iPod going to be hotter this season than ever so a new line up will kick start the buying frenzy.
Most of the people who bought an iPod mini 18 months ago are probably thinking about upgrading this xmas - do you think an iPhone is a logical upgrade - less storage and tied mobile contract adding to the cost?
iPhone would dilute the iPod brand because iPhone would be competing against hundreds of others which all offer the same bland funtionality. If anything, this would be a mobile subscription based iTunes service available to a broad range of phones eventually. but I don't think so...
What I hope to see:
iTunes 5 - integrating video downloads
Shuffle (in colours with more memory)
New iPod mini(s) 6GB + 8GB (colour screens)
Updated iPod Photo 20 / 40 / 80GB (now ipod video)

It is going to be a tablet device that looks like a handheld iMac, with a 9" touch senstive screen, a stylus that plays movies - ripped or downloaded from a soon to be service like iTunes. iFlicks?
Also can be used like a limited Mac. Docks like an iPod & syncs up to all the obvious apps & files so it can be used like a big pda as well.
hopefully it isn't just a boring phone!
