iTMS: Just For You Beta
Color me scared: not only does Apple come out with a new feature section in the iTMS called "Just For You" that guesses what I would like to buy based on my previous purchases, not only do they slap a big old blue "Beta" button on it (taking cue from Google perhaps?), but numbers 5, 6, and 8 in their suggested list really scare me. I mean, NSYNC?! Is this because I bought Ashlee Simpson's album?
Anyway, a bigger shot of what you see when you click on this suggestion box can be found after the jump.

Sales suggestions are only as good as the info you feed it, and ITMS purchases do NOT reflect that huge a chunk of my taste... actually, it is often the stuff I would NOT buy a full album of, a hard to find obscurity here and there. Sometimes Amazon suggests some weird stuff too, because I have tracked down some oddball hard to find thing. Do you think they are borrowing Amazon tech? (Apple licenses the one click)
October 12 2005 at 10:06 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyi'm sure (or at least i hope) that alot of people have already heard about this, but if you want a good service to reccomend music and whatnot, chack out http://www.last.fm/index.php. it is really a great service and site. for a little insight into how it all works, you can check out my profile, http://www.last.fm/user/turbosloth9/. you download a plug in for itunes which constantly updates the site as to what music you are listening to. all this information is gathered into a profile, and then identifies other users who listen to the same stuff as you (your "neighbours". just the charting out of your music is cool enough to sign up, but the real kicker is that the site then tells you what your neighbours listen to that you don't.

October 12 2005 at 7:28 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI like it, apart from the fact that they're recommending that I buy songs that I've already bought off the iTMS!
October 12 2005 at 5:19 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWell, I just bought an album it suggested. I think it's a neat feature. I'm sure there are privacy issues, but I would love to tell it what albums I own.

Yeah, don't know how the think I'll buy a classical album just because I have "Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic" by the Sundays
