Woz interviewed about Apple's 30th

He just wanted to be an HP engineer, but instead he co-founded the company that introduced the world to personal computers as we know them. That's Steve Wozniak for you, the merry prankster of the computer age and the affable genius behind Apple's earliest creations.

The Mercury News sat down with Woz and spoke to him about the early days at Apple, his relationship with the other Steve (you know, the one that likes turtlenecks), and how he is treated at Apple Stores.

Thanks, jbelkin.

I love Woz just as much as I do Jobs. They're both great people, but Woz is just a cool cool guy. I too was touched by that. I did not know Jobs invited him. That's so cool!

What a down to earth class act is the Woz. I am never disappointed when reading a Steve Wozniak interview or story. He is always unassuming, strait to the point and frank. Thank God the short-sighted management at HP opened the door for him to start Apple. I agree, neither Steve could have made Apple a go without the other. Great story once again.

PS: Yeah, I got warm fuzzies from the last paragraph too. But I would rather have the Playboys than the HP Catalog

"Am I the only whose heart was warmed a tad by this?"

Nope, it's not just you ;-)

Woz is my hero, no arguments :-D

HP in the 1970's had Nirvana like cult status. Their test equipment rivaled the best (Tektronix, IMHO) and for a young engineer, employment at HP was to die for. Wozniak took a huge leap of faith to leave HP.

Memories; getting the annual, hardbound HP catalog in the mail was better than getting a year's worth of Playboy, I still have a 1975 copy. Long live geeks.

"Q Do you attend Apple product announcement events?

A That's actually one of the nicest things Steve does for me: He makes sure I am always invited to the VIP guest area for the product rollouts. I appreciate that more than I can ever say. Those things have inspired me. They have inspired my children when I have brought them in the past. They are really great to see."

It's kinda sweet to think that Steve and Steve are still friends after all these years.
