MacBook Pros now available in 20 colors - from ColorWare

It seems like the rumors of multi-colored MacBook Pros were true, though Apple wasn't the one who dipped them in paint. ColorWare, purveyors of colorized high-end electronics, has added the 15-inch MacBook Pro (sorry, no 17-inch - yet) to their array of products you can purchase new and colorized. They also offer their colorizing service for those who need to add some colorful zing to that old 'n busted product you bought mere weeks ago.
Their highly-secretive colorizing process costs $449 (not including shipping) for Apple's pro notebook line, which also includes the new MacBook Pro. A base model 1.83 GHz MacBook Pro purchased from ColorWare in something other than Apple's standard titanium grey will cost $2449, while the higher-end 2.0 GHz model sells for $2949. You'll also have to wait for your brighter and shinier Intel-based pro Apple notebook: current shipping times are 2-3 weeks.
I have yet to see one of these in the wild, and it's hard to say what my reaction would be. Apple has obviously done a fantastic engineering and design job on their latest PowerBook line. Notice how virtually nothing changed between PPC and Intel machines - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Still, it's good to have choices, even if they're $449 choices.

I appreciate this post, but I would like to point out we should not be surprised if an any moment Steve shows up at a Keynote saying, "Here is our best-selling and design-award-winning product [eg. the iPod Mini], and now we're going to scrap if for this other product [eg. the iPod nano] that will be even better selling and better designed." The iPod mini certainly wasn't broken, but the iPod nano fixed it.
Maybe next Tuesday we'll see an entirely new "Macbook." Another reason to love Apple.

I have a 17" powerbook in red that I purchased from Colorware. I'm very happy with it and it looks terrific. I know people who have gotten laptops in less bright shades, and I would not recommend those. They tend to look like bad auto-body paint. As for the brighter colors, I would definitely recommend them. The red looks awesome, but it would be cool in black or blue as well.

Wonder if they unassemble or remove casing which could void the warranty?

For a few seconds I thought that this was the new "fruity" MacBook. Then I realized the post title and saw the picture. I can't wait to get my hands on a MacBook/iBook or whatnot.

That is a good question. Has anyone asked Apple if this voids your warranty or Applecare?

i did this with my ipod and would not recommend it. In the beginning its cool and all, but after that you feel a little ridiculous. Also apple has some of the best design teams in the entire world. If they thought that it would be benificiary to produce it in different colors they would. However they dont.

does anyone know if there is some case or something you can put on a laptop to change the color but not permanently? so you can change the color or take it off if u don't like it.

I might be willing to shell out some extra cash for an exterior paint upgrade on a car, but for a laptop? You've got to be kidding me. And the fact that just coloring the damn thing costs 25% of the actual purchase price of the laptop? You'd have to be foolish or rich to waste money like that.

A ColorWare iPod is covered under Apple warranty because they do not disassemble it for colouring. Colouring of the MBPs requires them to take apart the unit and does indeed void both the original warranty and AppleCare if purchased.

On NBC show Heist in the pilot a young lady had a Powerbook that was painted green. I guess Colorware is slowly getting out there...
