Zürich Apple Store all but confirmed

According to the Apple blog MacPrime (which is based in Switzerland), the only thing missing from this deal is the official announcement from Apple. It seems that the Benetton store (wow, I haven't seen one of those in a long time) at Bahnhofstrasse 77 will be the Apple Store's new home. According to TUAW reader Greg, who lives in Zürich, "...that location is one of the busiest spots in the heart of the city. I don't think there is anything more expensive than that. It's got a very luxurious touch, surrounded by watch- and department stores."

Sounds perfect. Let us know when construction begins!

That's strange...
A mac retailer of Switzerland, Data Quest, just recently moved on of their shops from the old city to a very exposed corner right next to the main station (very close to the Bahnhofsstrasse). The rent there is very expensive and they branded the shop as "Apple Center" with their own logo only very discreetly displayed.
I was under the impression that this was the swiss compromise for the Apple Store and opening one just a few hundred meters away would seem like an attack from behing to me.

Well, it might very well be that's just my impression and this was their own move with Apple being usually quiet about their plans...

That's nice. Zurich already has a couple of mac shops that look a lot like apple stores. Nice to have the real thing too.
