17 inch MacBook Pros are landing
TUAW read Eric has received his 17" MacBook Pro and has done what any self respecting Mac user would do: posted an unpacking set to Flickr. Check out the pictures and then let us know in the comments if you have gotten your 17 incher yet.

Does it whine or heat up?

No, no whine yet.. and it seems to be a reasonable temp! I ordered this with the 7200 RPM drive and it's much quiter than my 17" Powerbook.

Why do people post pictures of themselves opening a box? What is interesting about that? Who are these sad people going to Flickr and searching for "people opening boxes"?

Bob S., it is my way of letting you into my May Christmas. Feel free to not look. I added some more pictures next to my 17" PowerBook.

I'd really like to hear your report on battery life and a 3DMark06 benchmark--the 17" has double the graphics memory, right?

Hey. I have a current 17" and my biggest complaint is the loose screen (they say it's due to the weight of the screen). Is your macbook 17" any better? and if you have no frame of reference how far can you tilt your laptop backwards without the screen moving backwards on it's own.

Matthew,
It seems as though the screen is the "shiny" kind as opposed to the not shiny kind that have been on Powerbooks since the beginning. Forgive my lack of technical terminology, I'm just wondering if it is indeed the shiny type of screen?

Congrats,
@ Bob S. I personally love to see pics and especially videos of persons opening the box of their new Apple Hardware.

Pierre-Olivier: No dead pixels!
Matthew: The screen is NOT the shiny kind you see on a lot of laptops now. The HP Widescreens are the most recent ones I have seen with that screen.
Tim: I know exactly what you're talking about and that isn't as big of a problem on the new MacBook. It seems as though the screen is a bit lighter. That being said, it might be better hinges.. I am not sure. I does feel less screen heavy to me.

So just for clarification... how far back can you tilt it without the screen pulling?

daft question perhaps, but does anyone have the box dimensions? I'm flying to london on saturday teh 20th with the sole purpose of going to the apple store and purchasing a 17" macbookpro - but i want to check the box fits in ryanair's hand luggage dimensions, i have a feeling if i check it in it'll go walkabout...

I unloaded my 15.4 MBP in favor of the feature loaded 17" MBP. I have been lucky in that both were defect free. The screen is amazing and this thing is fast!
I already purchased a bunch of accessories: Logitech V270 BT mouse, Shaggymac screen protector (perfect fit), and Prime pac cleaning kit.
