No new MacBooks today?
This is why I don't pay any attention to rumors. I know, I know, why do I write about them if I don't cotton to them? Well, the simple fact is that many a Mac fan enjoy the constant rumormongering (and there is nothing wrong with that), so we give the people what they want; unless they want a new MacBook today. That's right, AppleInsider is now reporting that Apple won't be announcing the successor to the iBook today. Fear not, faithful readers, ApppleInsider sites faithful sources that say Apple will be launching the new MacBooks in tandem with a change in the iPod line up.
Thanks, Ben.

So what was the "Don't open until tuesday" boxes sent to the stores? anybody knows? They should be opened by now.. unless it was an outright lie from the begining.
There's not an Apple Store in 4000Km from here, so if anyone can look out of the window and see what's new in display please post for us non-americans (or english).

Sigh. Why would Apple announce new Hardware today, when every media outlet is watching E3? Apple isn't stupid... they'll wait until they don't have to compete with PS3 and Wii news.

I always thought it was way too strange to just silently release a MacBook, which is supposed to be one of the most heavily engineered products Apple's done. They did a small keynote for the HiFi and a leather case... why would this be any different? The 17" MacBook Pro is different, since we already knew about the 15".
It makes more sense to see it come alongside a press event. I believe the Manhattan flagship store opens sometime soonish, and Jobs is rumored to be making an appearance. Releasing the MacBook then would make more sense than silently releasing it on the store out of the blue.

Thanks AppleInsider for the journalistic genius!!!
At 4:00pm Eastern they decide to publish the HOT news that there won't be Macbooks today. How do they get the balls to publish this hard hitting news?
In other news, Macbooks won't come out tomorrow either, but don't quote me on that until 4PM Eastern tomorrow.
Scott, I'm glad you reported this. I think it should be policy to report when rumor sites get it wrong. Please hold their feet to the fire.
Between the Macbook drooling and the obviously poor reporting on the Aperture engineering team, It is obvious rumor sites have gotten out of hand. So, when they get it wrong, let's make sure everyone knows about it.

The cheapest iBook ever would be the $999 model, currently available. Chances are the Intel-based iBook will go UP in price, as did the mini (thanks Intel!).
But this makes me sad, as I had my credit card ready-to-go and replace my infamous "800 MHz Chiclet of Crud." Wah!

Rob,
Apple insider reported on that yesterday, Monday. Saying that "appleinsider is now reporting" make the story about one day old. zzzzzzz.

Given the increasingly antagonistic relationship between Apple and the rumor mill, "insider sources" might be strategically "leaking" wrong information to the rumor sites to discredit them...

If you actually look closly, no it doesn't say iBook G4, and why would Apple roll out new "cheaper" iBook G4's if its retiring its Power PC line of computers? Isn't it possible that Apple is keeping the iBook name?

I feel like I never want to actually bite the bullet and buy an ibook, because whatever comes out next might be so incredibly cool.

Why wouldn't Apple keep the iBook name? They kept the iMac, after all.
Here's my rumor: I heard from a reliable source (my cat Diablo) that Apple will still be in business tomorrow. Earth Shattering!

Now TS is reporting a "one week delay" because of "supply issues" and we will see them "Next Tuesday". When will these guys admit they have no clue? I'd rather be pleasantly surprised by an announcement than depressed when rumored announcement fails to materialize.
I wonder if Apple knows how many people have their wallets in hand ready to shell out for these machines? I know I am!

Hey Scott-
I searched around for a little bit trying to find your email adress, but was left with no luck. Anyways, I work for a company you guys seem to be familiar with called RadTech. I was searching your site and read some past posts regarding our products. From all of the different posts I read, you seemed to be the most interested in what we do. Anyways, cutting this short, email me back, because you said you wanted a Screensavr, and some other gear, and I think I can help you out with that.

My bad on the AppleInsider report. I got the wrong date. Sorry.
As Peter(16) said: "I'd rather be pleasantly surprised by an announcement than depressed when rumored announcement fails to materialize."
Rumor sites, go away.

AFox, that is the SAME type of seminar as the one I saw over the weekend that had May 9th as the date of the seminar. The is OLD, very, very OLD.
Also, if anyone from Apple is watching, I can tell you the Apple store in my area (60 miles away) was PACKED on Sunday. I was there an hour and 6 Macs left the doors as did a handful of iPods. We have a Small Apple store so these numbers looked pretty good. When I left, the only reason the number of Macs sold wasn't 7 was YOU HAVN'T ANNOUNCED THE MODEL I WANT YET!!!!!! "iMacBook" whatever.

I had a go at making a widget that counted down the days before the next iBook revision, but it didn't work because I don't think JavaScript supports the 128-bit long ints needed to store the number.
I think it's up to 286 gazillion days since the last revision or something.
