Flickr Find: BlackBook unpacking pics

Flickr user pealco has posted unpacking pictures of his pal Rodger's black MacBook. These shots give you a good idea of what the glossy screen is all about, as well as the MacBook's finish. Go and check it out. Just hide your credit card first.

Thanks, Pedro!

I have a White 15" MacBook, so all I know is based on that.

As to the questions a ways above, the indent next to the infrared reciver isn't actually an indent, it's the trademark glowy white light. It pulses just like all the old ones when the computer's asleep.

The latch is now two little magnets on the front corners of the computer.

As for battery life, on MacBook. When just using it for surfing I get about five hours out of it. When I'm doing more intensive things, ripping DVDs and the like, it's more like three.

I;ve had no whining issues with the comp, though I do hear the occational quite moo in the dead of night. Easily remedied, reach over and shut the lid.

Glossy screens are da sh*t! My hp has one, it kicks @$$. It can be a pain in the ass when there are a lot of reflections, but otherwise the screen looks beautiful. Plus this screen is visible in direct sunlight, my old matte screen laptop was useless outside. about the macbook, I like my hp laptop but I wouldnt mind one of these babies... in fact i would love to have one, kudos to apple for making the paint matte.

So is the white one glossy or matte finish?

Hmm, let's see, pros of this notebook...

Nice design. Nice blend of 12" and 14" iBooks. Seems to have soul. Ports on the left side, as they should be for people who think the 12" Powerbook was pretty well designed (no more mouse hand bumping into the Firewire cable as with my current 17 inch). 6 hour battery life, which (if true at all) should certainly mean 4.5 hours of use on a plane with normal precautions, right? And a big one: MAY not have a processor whine, compared with the MBPs, which seem to still have a big problem with whining even after so many months. That alone is a deciding factor for me right now. Oh, and the feet-that-will-not-fall-off.

Cons:

Graphics appear to suck, but I wonder how bad, really. I've got an Intel iMac I plan to keep using, especially if the games are sufficiently bad on this. Keyboard might be a negative, can't tell. It seems you cannot buy a Magsafe power supply through the Apple store yet, meaning I'll have to carry my one power supply with me to the 4 locations I compute in. There seems to be no Magsafe adapter for business class -- major :( On the heavy side, I guess, although I'm coming from a 17 incher right now so I don't care. If the battery life is anywhere near 6 hours, I will not mind. I use wheeled luggage anyway.

All in all, I am happy. Ordered mine and am waiting patiently.

I agree with S. I own a golossy screen Dell and the only issues I have with glare are if I am looking at it at some odd angle, that said I almost just like them better from a provacy standpoint... I can see what i am doing just fine to other people they get glare!

You have to understand that ANY screen, glossy or not, will show reflections when it's off, or when you look at it from an extreme angle. From the normal angle of view, when it's on, I've never seen any real glare. The other thing to remember is that if you are in direct sunlight, the old matte screens turn virtually invisible. These screens reflect that light away, making it easy to see outdoors and in bright lights.

If you take the white one and upgrade the hard drive to 80GB it becomes IDENTICAL to the black model for $150 less.
