Yet another melting magsafe connector
The more I read, the happier I am that I don't have a MacBook/MacBook Pro. From stains to heat to odd noises to melting parts, I wonder how Apple has sold even a single unit.Infinite Loop is reporting on yet another (allegedly) melting MacSafe connector (you may remember that Apple ordered the immediate removal of photos from Flickr the first time this was reported). Check it out...while you still can.

All I have to add is that my Macbook suffers none of the exaggerated faults being bandied around the web. It's the finest machine I've ever owned and a pleasure to use.
And if by chance my machine does develope a problem in the future, I've no doubt it'll be fixed by the good people at my local apple store so I'm not worried.
OMG, run for the hills.. we have TWO reports of a problem with the power cable! OMG, like totally!
Cut the freaking drama, and stop with the trolling posts. I see enough of that on other sites, and quite enjoy that it hasnt been happening here recently. I just spent the past week going over TUAWS 500 back pages, and see some of these dramatic posts.. and you know what? All of them were drama.
I am neither a Apple fanboy, or antifanboy.. I am fan of cool tech, and the Macbook is by far the best laptop Ive owned, ever. So instead of hanging with the lowest levels of bloggers (the dramatic whiners), why not just report the news.
I wanted to wait before buying my MBP but couldn't because I needed it to run certain PC software. It was either buy an MBP or PC laptop.
I am have been happy with it. Yes it runs warm, even a little hot at times but not unreasonable considering what I am asking it to do.
It is much noticably than my G4 PowerBook and parallels works great. I think my G4 used to take 6 hours to run Handbrake on a DVD. The MBP takes less than an hour.
I think I've talked to about 75 regular people owners of Mactel notebooks. By 'regular people,' I mean folks who do not hang out at tech sites. Not one of them had anything alarmist to say. The consensus was that the laptops get warm, but not that they are Mac griddles. The whine? They've never heard it. Discoloration? I've never seen a discolored MacBook or MacBook Pro in real life.
I took TUAW off my bookmarks soon after ultra whiny Dan Pourhadi was added to the roster. He was the last straw. The viral nature of the Internet means that nonsense spreads fast. As an Apple user and stock owner, I can't support people who so irresponsible. If there is a significant reason to post an alarmist entry, such as a proven example of a Mac causing a house to burn down, fine. But, every alleged incident of a Mac being imperfect does not deserve the amount of attention TUAW gives it.
"O my god(!) I'm the only one how picks up on Dave's irony/sarcasm...??????"
Well, since this site comes up fairly high in many Google searches, I'd imagine a fair amount of "Mac curious" potential switchers would stumble across it.
Reading the post (and several others) without being a TUAW "regular" would give no hint of sarcasm and lead the uninformed to believe there are major widespread problems...
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to note...
The Magsafe CORD failed, but the actual connector in the PowerBook itself.

I've owned 1st Gen of many Macs. My Titanium Powerbook is dented, twisted, and cracked... but runs 10.4.7 AND can boot into OS9. I still own a 1st Gen Aluminum Powerbook. And I still own my PowerMac G3 - arguably the best computer I've ever had.
As a counter, I also owned the ill-fated Powerbook 3500 (?)... the one that caught fire at Apple... now THAT computer sucked. But it was badly designed (no Ethernet, 16bit PCMCIA, Ugly LCD), and that was the problem.
The MacBook Pro has issues, certainly, but it's very well designed. A full range of ports, BEAUTIFUL LCD, nice keyboard, and BLAZING fast. Sure, the whine and heat are problems, but the quality of this baby makes up for it in droves.

I don't personally know anyone who's bought any of Apple's Intel laptops, and I know several, who has regretted the decision. The reason Apple's selling so many is that they're amazingly good machines. FUD like that which appears in this article is blowing a few problems with a couple bad machines WAY out of proportion.
O my god(!) I'm the only one how picks up on Dave's irony/sarcasm, or I'm the only one who doesn't pick up on the commenters' irony/sarcasm?????
