The more I read, the happier I am that I don't have a MacBook/MacBook Pro. From stains to heat to odd noises to melting parts, I wonder how Apple has sold even a single unit.Infinite Loop is reporting on yet another (allegedly) melting MacSafe connector (you may remember that Apple ordered the immediate removal of photos from Flickr the first time this was reported). Check it out...while you still can.

signal to noise, kids. There is no machine sold these days that gets as rabid and all encompassing coverage as Apple hardware, such that each single user's problems get magnified one hundredfold. Many problem reports does not automaticlly mean that there are many problems, and for all the online complaints, but all of the real world mac pro users I know are quite happy...
Or at least so far.
Still: more news, less FUD, if you please; save the snark for Gizmodo

Guys, we have all of two reports of this happening. The noises/heat were mostly fixed by recent SMC updates, and the battery issue was limited to a bad batch in the first two weeks. Essentially, if you bought one of the absolute first ones, you may have had some problems (mine shipped Feb 20th, and I had all of them except the Magsafe issue - Apple replaced seemingly half the computer without any question). At this point, they are as rock-solid as anything else out there, including previous Powerbooks.
Crap like the power adapter thing happens *all the time* on PC laptops, but you don't see coverage beause "ooh, Magsafe is new!!".

No, you should be very jealous. Methinks you are, actually.

Are you kidding me? I love my MacBook! I have owned 3 generations of PowerBooks, and this is the first laptop that I truly love. Speed, screen size, and weight are important to me. And, when I need Windows, it is a blessing to be able to use Parallels or BootCamp.
I don't doubt there may be some problems with some machines, but I would have to assume it is a limited number. Besides, the machines are covered by a one-year warranty.
All of the PC laptops that I have ever used have been noisier and clunkier--an unpleasant experience. The little whine doesn't bother me, and I am used to using a pad or lap desk when it is in my lap. I am a very happy MacBooker!

The first melting connector pictures were removed at Apple's REQUEST because the customer appreciated the prompt resolution of the problem.

With this logic you'll never buy a single thing in your life. Everything can have problems...cars, planes, food, clothes AND computers. A few machines that have had melting macsafes? Statisically not relevant. Wasn't there a Dell that exploded the other day?!? Strike Apple, strike Dell...I guess you should get yourself a pen and paper.

Two mag-safe power adapters have gone bad out of about 40,000 Macbook/Macbbok Pro sales? [sarcasm]SHAME ON YOU APPLE[/sarcasm] It's funny that when it's an Apple product it's big news.

Yup. I'm still on 867MHz on my PowerBook and would L O V E a MacBook±Pro. I'll kid myself that I'm really waiting for 64 bit and flash drives!
Troubles are pretty much a given with new models of anything.
It gets reported when they're Apple models because everyone loves their Mac and it really upsets you when weird things start happening.
But overall these mahines are way better and Rev.B is where it's at for the perfectionists among us.

Both my husband and I have a new MacBook Pro. He ordered his when they were first announced and then called to get the faster processor installed when that was offered, before his was shipped. I got mine from our local apple store at the end of April. We are both LOVING this computer and neither one of us have excessive heat issues (sure they're hot but not any worse than any laptop PC or the older mac laptop we owned), no loud fan noises....no discolorations or screen whines. I am knocking on wood as I type, but these computers are wonderful! I wouldn't hesitate of recommend a MacBook Pro (or MacBook for that matter) to anyone.

FWIW, in the first case Applereplaced the laptop and apparently requested, not ordered, the photos to be removed, which, according to the fellow with the problem, he did willingly. If I remember correctly, there were cats involved in the incident -- not sure how that's related, but surely it's significant -- boy am I glad I haven't gotten a cat -- I hear they have all sorts of problems, like scratched furniture, etc! Sheesh! TUAW is getting ridiculous with some of these alarmist postings-- isolated problems apple deals with don't make a good basis for panic.

That is caused by the cable being snagged and twisted, It has two cables inside that main cable, and if they get twiisted together they cause EXACTLY what you see.
This site shouldnt be spreading all this fud.

How comforting for Apple. I hope the magsafe burns down a part of an Apple office so Apple will learn to have better quality control...a lot of shaddy things have been going on latly.

You may remember that Apple asked nicely that the pictures of the failed magsafe be taken down. The original poster of the pictures says "Apple, after dealing with this issue, kindly requested me to remove the pictures at least until their engineers had a change to investigate this issue. Since Apple support has been very helpful and already is getting me a new Macbook asap, I'm happy to answer their request." And you call that "giving orders"? I don't think so.
