Apple quietly responds to whining (of MacBook Pros)

Rickard Almqvist at
MacInTouch is reporting that Apple has apparently (and finally) produced a tweaked version of the MacBook Pro logic board in response to everyone's whining - MacBook Pro whining, that is. Rickard received a letter from Apple detailing the new board and stating that it was brand new, "only a few days old". Also of note is the need for new installation DVDs that contain 10.4.6, not the 10.4.5 discs the machine originally came with. And just for all you skeptics out there, Rickard has also posted a picture of Apple's letter on his blog, so you can let your "that was Microsoft Worded" and "Photoshopped!" naysaying fly.

Here's hoping MacBook Pros everywhere can finally stop whining. The one question I have is: are you going to be sending your MBP in for the new board? Or is iTunes usually blaring loud enough for you to still wonder what all this 'whine' talk is about?

I have the Macbook and my logic board was replaced as well. It used to whine really loud and actually shut off after logging in. Even though this happened im sure it will only be the one occurance

I'm so disappointed... I've sent back my MBP for whining problems on May 22th, got it back on June 10th with a brand mb, and I still have that stupid whining. How often will I have to change the mb ??? I'm not even talking about the repairing delay...

Just curious, are these replacement disks direct replacements for the one that came with the MBP? Meaning, does it come with two disks, which allow me to install all the extra software if I so choose? I use Comic Life and OmniOutliner and don't want to lose them.

Also, do people suggest I bring mine in to get the MLB replaced? The whine is driving me nuts, but I dont want to be without my MBP for a week for nothing.

Also, does anyone know what the turnaround for the MBP has been when sending it in? I would need it back within a week or else I start losing money.

Thanks.

>19. Oddly enough my macbook which seemed to have a power supply whine seems to have lost it with the most recent os upgrade to 10.4.7. Weird huh?

Maybe yours shipped with the new logic board, but the software wasn't ready for preinstall yet....

MacDiva, Apple doesn't always work that way.

Some folks with the last model 15" G4 PowerBook (the one with the hi-res screen) noticed a problem with horizontal lines.

They called AppleCare who started replacing their screens with the exact same part number which didn't fix the problem.

Several months later, people sending their PBs in for this repair started getting them back with Samsung screens (a totally different part number) that fixed the problem.

Apple never once pubicly acknowledged the problem nor confirmed the fix. If it wasn't for sites like TUAW, MacRumors and MacNN, folks wouldn't have known.

This is so true Mac Diva, there is absolutlly no proof that the whining problem is fixed with all motherboard replacements....it may be the case for some but not for all of them...keep in mind that some MBP owner (a lot of them actually) never experience the whinning problem...

That letter says absolutely NOTHING about whining or any specific issue. The logic board update may or may not address that problem, which may or may not actually exist. Both 'Rikard' and David are reading what they want into the letter. Whatever happened to common sense? If Apple acknowledges a whining problem and confirms there is a fix, then post an entry saying so. But, that has NOT happened. So, there is no reason for this misleading entry to have been written.

"Rickard" or "Rikard" is a scandinavian version of the english Richard.

I've had my own MBP logic board replaced three times now in desperate attempt to get rid of all of those noises. Not once have I received a letter along with my repair detailing the change and *never* have I gotten a new OS X install DVD. This gives me new hope. Off to the Apple Store I go!
