Apple KB article: yellow MacBook palmrest

Apple Knowledge Base article 304058 is brief but important for you discolored Mac Book owners out there. I'll quote it in its entirety: ' If your Mac Book is exhibiting discoloration on the top case after some use, please contact Apple Care for service.'

We have known for awhile that Apple was replacing discolored Mac Books but just in case you get any grief from Apple customer service about it, refer them to article 304058.

Thanks, Jamie.

Just what I was looking for -- my Macbook, less than 2 months old, is starting to discolor. It's my only beef with the machine, but it's a BIG one.

I bought my mackbook just 2 months ago & noticed the discoloration on the palmrest. I am so relieved to hear that Apple has recognized this as a problem and is willing to repair it. I am on hold with them as I type this. I wanted to say to Ezrael that I am a mom of 2 kids under 4 yrs of age and use Mr. Clean Magic erasers for EVERYTHING...I have only had 1 instance where it did not work. You guessed it, that one instance would be on my macbook palmrest. I have tried it several times to no avail.

It is my understanding (as my MacBook is currently being shipped back from the service center with this issue) that later batch MBs already have the new plastic installed, so you should not have this problem. Lucky you for not being hasty and ordering yours on the first day of the release... :-P

OK so I just ordered a white MacBook a few days ago - am i likely to have this problem, or have they solved the discolouration problem so all new Macbooks won't have this problem?

I called Apple and after a 20-min phonecall, they're sending me box + a label to ship my MacBook to them. They'll replace the top case to fix the discoloration, and best of all, it's all covered under the warranty! (No I do not have AppleCare, but yes I did call the AppleCare support number.)

5-10 days turnaround.

Peace.

My MacBook just shipped out today for this exact reason. I started seeing discoloration on my case, called Apple, I barely even mentioned what the problem was and the rep knew exactly what I was talking about.

All-in-all it was a 10 minute phone call and they're handling all the shipping. I was quoted a 6 - 9 day turnaround time.

Guess Paul hasn't read any of the multitude of blog posts, forum threads, articles, etc, that make clear that the staining is not the result of dirty hands.

Please lurk more.

I was brought up to wash my hands after getting grubby rather than complaining about making things dirty...
