Western Mass. Apple Store planned
If you are a New England Yankee like me, you know that there's a bit of a division between coastal Massachusetts and "Western Mass," as we call it. Leave it to Apple to bridge the gap. Until now, most of Massachusetts' Apple Stores have been clustered around the east coast. According to ifoAppleStore, plans are in place for a new location in the Holyoke Mall. Nice! Here's hoping the deal goes through.

Yay! We have plenty of places to buy Apple products, but we've had so much trouble getting things fixed out here in Western Mass.

I'm still waiting for the Providence Place store to open. I interviewed for a job there in 2002 and they wanted me to go to West Hartford until Providence opened. I didn't take it because West Hartford is too far of a drive everyday. Good thing I didn't wait. So many people have reported that it is opening any day. Yeah right. Dell just opened a store there for crying out loud!
Ah. I'm okay. Really.

Has anybody heard anything about a Birmingham, AL store? I thought that was all but a done deal a long time ago. Also, wasn't there talk of a Savannah, GA store on Broughton Street? That seems to have petered out as well.

Seriously, the Holyoke Mall sucks. It only takes me about 20 minutes to get there but we always go to Westfarms (40 minutes) 'cause it's soo much nicer. Granted an Apple Store would make it nicer but I think I'll still make the drive to West Hartford. Besides, then I can go to V.I.P.!!

1. The Holyoke Mall is ghetto.
2. While the University Store at UMass Amherst is nice, never get your mac serviced through "Apple certified" OIT Hardware Support at UMass. I had my old iBook serviced there when its cdrom drive failed and they mangled my case. They clearly had no idea how to take it apart and the cd drive they put in wasn't even flush with the outer case.

This is GREAT news. There are two places here that have anything to do with Mac. One is the CompUSA near the mall, which isn't too bad, and the other is Yes Computers up in Northampton, which isn't all that great. I hear Circuit City is going to give Macs a try again, so the area will be swamped with Mac. Sweet!
Finally, a little style hits Ingleside. I'll still be heading to NYC soon to check that action out though. Gotta see the cube after all... And yes, Western Mass. is quite bit different from the Boston area. If it has a "borough", a "bury", or "ham" in it, we just say "Boston" out here.

As someone born in Pittsfield, Holyoke isn't Western Mass :-P

They should put one in Natick -- in the Natick Mall, or in the future expansion of the Natick Mall (which is supposed to be done next year)

oh sweet lord this is good news. i've been wondering what's taking so long for years now. woot!
as for it not being w. mass, anything west of worcester is western mass--not geographically, but psychologically--as this part of the state gets treated like the hinterlands by those from the coast. so let's not fuss over technical points. we have a common enemy brother rob!

I realize northern CT west Mass really needs an Apple Store, but the Holyoke mall really doesnt seem like the place. The only logical place I can think of would be right around the New Hall of Fame in Springfield (Possibly in the Old Hall). It would represent a more upscale location that would recieves enough vistors to have an Apple Store. The Holyoke Mall doesn't see nearly the same demographic that say Westfarms does. But other than the HOF its the next best alternative to serve southern VT, Western Mass and northern CT.

The only problem with the area around the Basketball hall of fame is that no one goes there. The only thing that would be in its benefit would be a large building with the tell tale apple signage that would bring people down there. Because even the Basketball hall of fame really is not enough to draw people in.
I think Holyoke is a better fit as far as drawing in people from colleges since it is in a mall and parking may be a bit safer than in the waterfront area.
Althought it would be best if you could get to the store from the outside of the mall as well so that they could have some really good signage to the highway.
And as far as Holyoke not being in western mass, are you considering Berkshire county the only place to be considered western mass? We certainly are not in Central mass in this area, we dont get the recognition that the central and eastern areas get, probably less funding per person too and no fast transportation to get to the other areas like a commuter train. Maybe we need to call Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin Counties West Central, or "the area between Western Mass and Central Mass".. lol
